Nevadans?

Sunny I have 2 pips in this hatch right now. One of my Davis FBCMs and One B/B/S AM. I have one AM out and thought I had a black, but it's BLUE!

Here's pics of my new babies. The mottled colored ones are white orps and the yellow are the buff orps. Aren't they adorable?!!

Awwww they're sooooo cute! LOL
My last hatch I thought I had a blue Marans, but I couldn't figure out why it looked so different. It turned out to be a splash. Right now it's hard to tell it apart from the mottled Java from a distance. hehe

Helloooooo Again....

I'm Back! We FINALLY got our chicks. They've been a long time coming! I drove them back from CA, so I guess they're really California Girls: 1 RIR, 1 BR & a BuffOrp.
They are SOOooo Tweeet!
LOVE them.
Drove them here 6 hours in our convertible. They CHEEPED the first hour or so and then settled down in their box in the sun. I was so anxious for their comfort, but they fared very well!
Taped a waterer to the side of the box to hold it (sort of) steady, and put starter mash in the corner and away we went.

Now we just need to build a coop and a run in the backyard. Right now they're in a large moving box in the garage.
Cart before the horse, I know.
*sorry to mix metaphors*

Anyone else in Vegas that wants to advise us on a coop design. We've got about 16x6 area to construct their condo in.
Craigs list advertised a Cluck Tour of local henhouses for $4 bucks. Self Guided. April 2nd.

I'm excited!

Well I put 20 Americauna eggs in the LG incubator with egg turner today. We will see how the eBay eggs fare. I got 16 eggs from Ridgecrest, Ca. and 4 eggs from Tickflaw, La.
The incubator has been running about a week, so the temp is stable. Too bad the same can not be said for the operator.

In about two weeks I will setup the hatcher. We should have chicks on the 9th. of April. (fingers crossed for luck).

How come we never get cool things like a Cluck tour up here?

Yeah, the CLUCK tour is pretty cool. I went on it last year and it is full of inspiration as you see housing fashioned in all sorts of manners. Last year there was the stable stall that was converted into a hen run, some dog run panels that created a stealth coop against a tall wall in suburbia, a hen hut made of PVC fencing material, and a country house with ample large coop and run. This year has a couple more coops. Worth the look-see, IMHO.

(I have my own ideas for a coop if I ever get approved, but I don't think the HOA would open the gates to the community for a house tour if I built it....The neighbors are pretty sticky about keeping it a closed community and private...Rats!)

The latest BYC newsletter posted a forum of 'Got Illegal Chickens?' that is pretty interesting, although at times it morphs into thought-provoking discussions on morality and civil disobedience. But most of the posters on there have a wicked sense of humor, such as telling your neighbors who spy your birds that they're really Asian Ground Parrots or -- in the case of silkies -- Chernobyl Bipedal Rabbits.

On the subject of keeping quiet, stealth chickens Bawk Vader (who's tag line is "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, but a bird in the backyard is worth about an egg a day") wrote: "Just a suggestion to anyone wanting chickens in a small area or residential area. You might consider seramas. It's so small that people don't believe they're chickens and the roos sound like squeak toys."

Oh, I do love BYC!!! A good laugh is good for the soul.
