Nevadans?

Well the incubator went into lock down this morning.
Actually I moved the eggs in to the hatcher.
one of the Tickfaw eggs exploded

I had forgotten how bad an egg could stink.
I did not think that egg was fertile when I candled them, but I was reluctant to remove it. (I will know better next time)
Hatch date is April 9. I am hoping for the best, but not expecting alot.

Oh! I hope they had good insurance to cover your expensive car! Are you OK?!!! I hope that your being here, on BYC, tonight means no one got hurt!

And yes, that Kim sure is a sweetheart!

Yes Fallen leaf, I'm pretty sure that Horsefeatherz has Blue Orps! I have 3 of hers and they are gorgeous! Actually 2 are half EE and half blue orp but they look all blue orp (except for the comb). They are great layers and sweet tempered girls too!

Hi Dannee! Welcome to the Nevada thread!

I hurt. Not as bad as yesterday, but I may need to get a couple of things checked out. I'm hoping I don't have to.

Happened Monday by Dakotah's school. The kids are fine. Kayla was asleep, so nice and relaxed.

Cracked my bumper up the middle and the sensors aren't working, but not broken , so they can't tell the rest of the damage until they pull the bumper.

First estimate........just the bumper.......$2018. For a bumper! I guess thats about right since just the cover for my side mirror is $140 and that's JUST the cover.

Just got home from Walmart and there's a shaking coming on. Not sure what else is wrong, but I need to take it to the doctor tomorrow and see if he finds anything.

Never heard of the insurance company before. Scary!

I have 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 2 Jersey Giants, 2 Light Standard Brahmas, 1 Buff Brahma, 1 Dark Brahma, 1 Sliver Laced Cochin, and 1 Partridge Cochin:)My oldest are 4 weeks and my youngest are 2 weeks. My Plymouth Rock wont accept my 2 new Cochins so I think I will be giving her to a friend. I tried separating her and putting her back like everyone suggested but it didn't work:(Lovely weather we are having ......lol....I thought I heard somewhere it was Spring???????

daeghorn, I am a USEF "R" Hunter/Eq/Jumper judge, if that means anything to you. Early in my career I judged everything (first show ever was Mule Days in Bishop, CA), but now just my specialty. I've gotten to go lots of neat places, the coolest of which was probably Alaska!

Here are my babies:) Not sure of the sexes but have a good idea...any guesses?

Hey folks, long time since I have said that. Hope everyone is well.
I am looking for homes for my Seramas, all of them. Free or for trade. We are looking for about a half dozen to a dozen laying hens.
We have nearly 40 seramas that will all make great little pets. most are roosters but we do have a couple or three quads with an extra hen or tow mixed in there. Not picky about how they go. otherwise we are looking for someone that would process the roosters for the breast meat. Think cornish game hen size birds or a nice size pigeon. At any rate we need to get rid of them and make room for some birds that will at least provide some eggs. I have still not been able to convince my wife and kids to process them for meat.
We have been busy with a couple of projects and thinking about a drastic lifestyle change. I work for the University. Not sure all of you have been paying attention. But in a couple of months we in northern nevada are going to be lucky if we can call it a glorified community collage. In short I may not have a job here after 24 years of service. And I have little interest in finding another one. The old way of doing things is not working so well for a lot of people. And I am not sure I have a lot of faith in it working again anytime soon. So I am looking hard at other ways of eating and staying warm. Mainly to it yourself. Grow our own food, raise our own meat, provide our own power, and anything else we can do for ourselves. the state has to pay me half my wages for the rest of my life weather I work for them or not. that will help cover the can't do it for ourselves stuff. I may be looking for some land and I actually wish I had it right now even if we could not live on it. We have spent since January learning to grow our own tobacco since we all smoke. 50 lbs of tobacco a year at $40 a lb or we can grow it ourselves for about a buck a lb or less. I actually have some plants I have grown since January and have had some whole leaves I have processed. still nothing that is good enough but not far from it. and far from out of ideas. I know it woudl be easier to just quit, but it aint going to happen. Just like when I look into solar electrical. the first thing they want to talk about is not using so much power. I just ask them what made them think I needed them to tell me that not doing something would cost less. I am not going to pay someone $10,000 for me to stop using their product. So far I don't get to far with the suppliers. So I will build it myself. I can get the college education required for the price they want to do it for me.

Anyway, life sort of has become a whirl wind that chickens have become just a tiny part of. If I do not answer PM's please e-mail me. I check my e-mail serveral times a day but am not always able to check in here. I've been thinking of you all often and wondering how you all got trough the winter. we lost one two hens and I don't think either one was due to cold. just freaky stuff that seramas seem to be afflicted with.

By the way Seramas are a great way to have a pet chicken for your kids if they don't have one from the larger birds. very gentle and not big enough to hurt them if they do get startled or something. they also get attached to the person that handles them the most. can live off of scraps and take up next to no room. only problem is they would not fair well in a scrap with the big girls.

All of ours our free to good homes. free even if you wan to process them, but we are also looking for some hens if you have any for trade.
