I made the mistake of getting a job as a substitute teacher and saw way too much of how the politics get played. I was sort of heart broken. I had all these wonderful ideas about being a great teacher and learned that that is not how the game works. You are constrained by a system and your peers. I don't have a competitive bone in my body, so I knew I just couldn't play the game if push came to shove.

I wasn't really all that sorry to dig in and help, when my Husband's partner pulled out and left town. That was 17 years ago.

i got sick of ramen, mac n cheese and tuna! my undergrad is in Psychology and Spanish and my Ph.D. is in Social Psychology. I work at UNR doing program evaluation now. We are a grant-funded center (no state funding) and we work with different non-profit organizations as well as some campus entities to help evaluate their programs. i like it--very applied--not as abstract as research can be.

laceynoelle, your mom should definitely consider tmcc. those career colleges are really expensive and I'm not sure how high the quality is. tmcc can be very affordable. my husband has taken classes there.

Elizabeth

That sure sounds like an interesting job. I'll bet you enjoy it.

THE RED ROCK! The one outside of Las Vegas? I have a friend who lives there. We simply must plan to meet each other, once you get settled in.

Ouch, yeah! Especially in Special Ed classes! Unfortunately they often become a dumping ground for problem kids that just won't behave in class. Teachers in the regular classes label them as disabled just to get them out of their classrooms. This in itself wouldn't be a problem if there were the resources out there to really get the kids some help but often the teachers are just expected to keep the kids from hurting themselves or others and learning is put on the back burner.

It's not the teacher's fault though. They are doing the best they can with very little!

I think most of these special ed teachers are saints.

No - too far south.

I have kidnapped her and made her move out my way (hehehehe). Red Rock Road, north/west of Reno.

Red Rock isnt too far away, and they're selling nice little plots of land from like 10-180 acres. I was thinking about getting enough money for a downpayment and moving out there some day. Nice, Sunny!

Nope sorry! The Red Rock north of Reno. It's also pretty but not nearly as spectacular as THE RED ROCK outside of Vegas. I've been to the Red Rock you speak of though. It is really a fantastic trip. In fact when I visited Vegas, quite a few years ago, that was the highlight of my trip. I'm not much of a gambler and the shows I saw didn't thrill me but that Red Rock area was really cool! I love Red Rock Country in Arizona and Utah and that area reminded me of that part of the world.
