Don't second guess yourself! By the time you add food, water, storage, nests, roosts, ramps and separate grow out pens yada yada yada it will look too small.

Not to mention "chicken math" - that's how you wake up one day and discover that your "couple of chickens just for eggs" has turned into 32! And you still want more!

Chicharomirinda; Your coop's looking GREAT!! It looks like you know what your doin'! Quick question, Can a guy get nipple waterers locally? I only want 3-4. Or if anyone needs some I'll buy a pack of ten and share em.

thanks! I really don't know what I'm doing. Just using Building Chicken Coops for Dummies as my guide and reading up on the internet. I am thinking about nipple waterers but I haven't decided yet. I haven't seen them locally but I haven't looked for them either.

I have a few extras you can have. I bought 10 and only used 2 of them. PM me your mailing address and I'll send them to you.
I like then during mild weather but they freeze up when it's cold. I guess I could turn a light on them but I mostly worry about having more water available to them when it's hot. The 1 big waterer is fine for winter.

How do you like the book? I've been curious about it but I think what's important to me goes beyond most coop plans. My coop has to accommodate me and my cruddy back. Still every time I see it at the bookstore I'm curious about how much info it might have.

Sunny, I like my cat. But she is evil and horrible. im not exactly sure why I like her to be honest.
So this morning my mom said she needed to find some sort of grass that grew out here. Im like 'I think Ive got just the thing.' Ha, byc strikes agian.

I got it out of the library. The Sierra View Library has it (the one inside the Old Town Mall; there is really no view at all from that library so the name always confuses me). I used the plans for the 8x8 walk-in coop as a guide and adapted it for my 10x10. I am putting in more windows and more other ventilation, for example. I also wanted mine elevated a little for some sheltered outside space for the chickens. I am putting in half as many nestboxes so I cut that down. I do like the explanations of construction techniques in it. It was helpful for a complete construction newbie like me.

My boy is still hanging in. he ate a whole pear. I don't think he throw up anymore but I wasn't home all day. I was at GED class and I don't think I could take him with me.
