Nevadans?

I show dogs in 4-H I was told i need to start showing in AKC because I can handle well but I really don't want to buy a purebred.
Sunny Where is the new dog?
I wanna see her.

Sorry everyone. We got back very late because the trip took longer than we thought it would, the gal wanted to talk for awhile and make sure we had all the right info, we took a wrong turn and the new dog threw up in the back seat.

Then when we got home and tried to introduce the two of them... well, not good, so far. Samson did not behave like a gentleman at all. The rush and corner her approach did not set well with the new girl and a fight almost broke out but we nipped it as soon as it started. I'm so tired. No pics tonight.

Right now I need to go on the web and research ways to introduce new dogs to each other.

Wish me luck!

Kim I'll check out the pics of your new roo in a few. Thanks for posting them. Feel bad that I can't reciprocate but I'll get to it asap.

Don't know what you mean by a call name but she has a ridiculous convoluted name on her registration papers. We will not call her that we will call her Delilah.

Her hips are good but breeding attempts have not been successful. She refused first 2 potentials and a 3rd boy was accepted by her but he was apparently the dog version of ADHD. Kept getting distracted by everything else around him. I need to take my time introducing these two. She is to be a friend for Samson first. The possibility of puppies is cool but not necessary.

Do you have separate areas or crates at all? The main thing is having control of both dogs. They are older and sometimes introductions can be difficult and your girl is a little paranoid about being where she isn't quit sure she's supposed to be. Your boy needs to be able to sit, lay or be crated while she sniffs around, but it's the males house first, so that coulod work to your advantage. Like in breeding where you take the female to the male. But he has to be able to be controled to know that his being pushy is not to romantic. They're kind of like a teenage boy. They know the girl is pretty, but they're to awkward to be charming and suave. Instead they show them their bug collection and pick their nose.

You know you can call if you need help. If I'm no good at anything else I have always had a nack at training, since I was a little girl. It's the way I got my first show GSDs. I was 13 and 14 ad had done training for people who gave me show quality pups in exchange. I used to own a kennel when I was in my late teens, early 20s. Main reason was for training. I'm not very good at explaining in print, but I can honestly say, I'm very good at it in person. Bill used to love to brag about me training and even when I was bartending, I'd get people coming while i worked to ask for help, because someone sent them to me.

Oh and a Call Name is just that. The name you call them other than what is on their papers, the registered name.

Is there a way you and the hubby could take them out on a hike or a walk? I have heard of a lot of people introducing dogs that way. Just keep them seperate for a small while but take them on a couple of walks a day so they get to know eachother on neutral ground. Ive gotten some good advice on introducing two "aggressive" dogs when i got my other BT bogie. let me see if i can find it.

(not calling your dog aggressive but ours were)

sunny, hope things work out well getting the dogs to get used to each other. i have zero dog experience.

aubrey, i had trouble changing my avatar too awhile back. it stayed the old one for awhile and then the next day the new one finally appeared. it was weird. maybe your new one will pop up in awhile.

First breed I ever showed, raised and how I got into training for others. Don't take Fair on OFA or lower than 90 percentile on Penn Hip. If they don't have these certificates and depending on age I wouldn't take her. She'd have to be 2 to get either.

She is 3 years old and they said they had her hips checked out and will give me everything when I get there.

Thank you so much Kim! This really helps a lot!

Goodnight.

Penn and OFA are online - anyone can look at the results of the test. It is not something that she gives to you when you show up.

Sorry I was offline yesterday - had another furnace problem and spent most of the day trying to find the part, then had to go into reno/sparks to get it. At least the furnace is fixed and no repair bill.

Right!

And yes the walks. I was tired and was going to mention that, but you also need to be able to control them inside and I knew it was her first night with you.

I need to take my own advice and work with Dusty. zGot her at a bad time and I didn't really have myself together enough to spend time with her. I'm still not together, but my yard and the coops are priority right now before the weather gets worse. Dusty and I are going to be doing a lot of walking this winter.

My friend is going to e-mail me the "introducing dogs" bible tonight. there is GOLDEN info in there. It was sent to her by someone who runs a bull terrier foster and was constantly having difficult dogs in his home. If he could do it with them anyone can do it!
