Does anyone want to split a hatch with me?

After Sunny bragged about her lavender ameraucanas, I got so jealous that I just couldn't leave well enough alone. She gave me the name of her breeder (Thanks Sunny!) and she is going to hatch some babies for me. My amazing husband is going to drive me to California to get them. So I figured... does anyone else want a few totally beautiful designer chicks? I'll just pick them all up and bring them back.

This is what she can have available:
"My incubator holds 24 eggs. Of course not all eggs I set end up being fertile. If anyone else would like chicks I have the lavender & black split Ameraucanas, wheaten/blue wheaten Ameraucanas, project buff x wheaten Ameraucanas (basically EEs until perfected) and EEs."

I'm going to pick up 6 chicks for myself, 3 lavender and 3 EEs.

She's going to set them after the current hatch at the end of the month.

If anyone wants some but doesn't have room for babies at the moment, I'm willing to foster them until about 6 weeks.

hmmm, very tempting but I'm not ready for more young-in's yet (although for some reason I've been browsing about different breeds all evening on the web). thinking about a few later spring chicks, though. maybe someone else on here will take you up on that.

I know! I used to set up Prodigy and Quickbooks etc for folks but my son was running circles around me by the time he was 8. At four he was turning on the computer and playing games on it. And I think it's worse now! My 2 year old granddaughter was playing with my phone the other day and I said "You're not calling China are you?" and she responded, "No. I'm just texting." Oh my gosh! I'm barely used to the idea that she can form complete sentences and that pops out?!!

how cute!

it's scary how different technology is for kids growing up these days. they are little whizzes at it, too.

good news on the hole digging front...jose got a heavy pointy metal pole/tool thing from our neighbor across the street that really helps dig the holes. He is almost done with the holes. We are debating if we should set the 4x4 posts in concrete or if our clay soil will be secure enough. Any opinions on the subject? We do get some pretty hefty wind through our yard. those neighbors were very excited to hear about our chickens and came over to take a look. (

possible chicken sitter source for us when we take a vacation).

my parents are here for the week. we celebrated the kids' birthday early since my parents won't be here on their real birthday. they gave the kids little roller blades with knee pads, elbow pads. they were very excited and had a great time trying them out. I'm taking off wed and thursday and hopefully i can do some work on the run and nestboxes.

i really do have chick fever again. some breeds i'm interested in are norwegian jaerhon (can't help it, I'm norwegian and have a norwegian forest cat); speckled sussex; delaware and maybe a cochin or two and some silkies. those last two choices are really just for fun. we'll see what happens.

Startles me that's for sure! Life is just moving faster and faster!

Missy I wouldn't mind three of those Buff x Wheatens of hers. I think the consensus now is that new ameraucana projects are still considered ameraucanas when both parents are ameraucanas, they are just called non-standard ameraucanas. She is being careful though because this was an extremely heated debate not that long ago here on BYC between hard core literalists and folks that understood that all breeds of chickens were a project at some time. Still if both parents are ameraucanas then their offspring are ameraucanas. *oh lordy I hope I don't stir up that debate again!!!*

FYI for everyone else, this breeder has got the sweetest ameraucanas. Not flighty like some we've gotten in the past. Her flock is very mellow!

Course I have no idea what she puts in their water...

Well this is a new look, Personally I don't like it. When I get on the net I am usually moving pretty fast. now I have to stop and figure out where everything is.The left click on spell check is not working. I have to type slower, grrrr.

Hey all, how are you??! Im so excited I finally came on here. The new look it wierd, but okay, right? I miss coming on, so expect me tomorrow morning. At the moment this is the only time I can come on, bleh. Geez, I feel like I've been away forever. But yea, just checking in. :]

Good morning everyone! It was horrible not having BYC yesterday! When I woke up around 6, instead of going back to sleep I checked my iPhone to see if it was back up and it was so I ran upstairs, put the coffee on, grabbed my computer to have a look at it on the big screen!

I think it's very user friendly and similar enough to the last forum that it shouldn't take too much getting use to. Love that the box to post is just right at the bottom of the page, you don't have to click to another page. Penturner, I do see that the spell check isn't working....I'm sure they'll fix that soon, although I thought that was controlled by your browser.....

OK, I'm checking to see how easy it is to post a picture because I thought before it was a pain. Here's a Polish/Silkie Mix that I'd love to find a home for so if anyone wants him, let me know....
