Thanks everyone! Im happy too, just waiting for this daily"hangover" to go away.Ugh. They have me on Zoran to help with the sickness.Id die without it for sure.

Very cute bird Seth. They remind me of poodles for some reason.Probably the poof on their heads, lol.

My neighbors chickens were killed by that big bird right there in her yard, they didnt take the chicken away, just ate it in her yard.So sad. Our neighbor had a small Chi type dog swooped up by a hawk right in front of them.Im sure a skilled adult bird could take a banti sized bird. Its tougher for them to find grub in winter so chickens are easy pickens!

I was thinking with all the snow today I would see more peeps on here but I guess not?

I was on but then my power went out for a bit. Back on now though. The dogs are loving this snow!!! They are running around, jumping and playing with each other. It's a total crack up! I swear they are laughing! Ok not out loud but you know what I mean.

OK now to check out that link for the wind turbine.

peep_show: Chicky Update!!!

I think there are only 6 girls out of the 18 NYD hatch you gave me. Sheeesh! Only 2/7 Marans and 4/10 Salmon Faverolles. I think Token is a boy but Dad thinks its a girl.

Heya, VegasChick!

I was thinkin' they should be feathering out about now. Sorry 'bout the low count, but the eggs didn't come with blue and pink dots on them! LOL. If I had land/space/agreeable neighbors, I wouldn't mind growing out a few boy-boys for the plate (I hear the Marans are delicious both egg and plate). But, yeah, I prefer the egg makers. Don't count Token out as not a pullet yet....Leghorns tend to have bigger combs than other breeds per age. But the boys REALLY comb out AND develop that undeniable roo-tude very young (as in strutting their stuff, being obnoxious, etc)

Are you keeping any for yourself?

Glad you don't have *to do deeds* on the batch. I like the thought of chicks reaching their full potential, whatever their destiny might be (even if it's Freezer Camp...winner, winner, chicken dinner!).

Thanks for the update!

Hawks.... Bleh. At the ranch I was on the phone commenting to somebody that Mama Mallard was marching her new-hatchlings from the stand of trees where her nest was to the pond for their first swim when -- BOOM! -- like the 16-ton weight in a Monty Python skit a big ol' redtail fell from the sky and got one. (I think I screamed) It ate it right there. Mama Mallard got the rest of the brood into the pond and kept swimming the edges and the big bullfrogs ate about four more, swimming up from behind like Jaws or something. Each lap around the pond she had fewer and fewer. It was Nature in action and pretty horrific. I realized then why it was that the wild ducks were setting on huge nests of eggs....the probability of even a few surviving were pretty slim.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that your hawks find a patch of reeeeeeally slow small jackrabbits or field mice or some such.
