missy those look beautiful. I use a spray on clear epoxy from the spray paint section when i make my gravestones and they are holding strong out in the dirt and the muck.

I like spray epoxy too, especially for 3-dimensional works. Lately, I've been buying polycrylic brush-on protectorant, which is pretty good. For something super-duper solid, I would want to
1) Paint directly on a good piece of unvarnished wood. It can be recycled wood, but stripping it down to the bare wood, with a gesso coat, would allow the acrylic to seep right into it.
2) Brush it with an epoxy, shellac, or a polyurethane. Some of these might yellow after years in the sun. I'm not worried because... it's a chicken coop. It's going to be pooped on.

I didn't pick the best surface to paint these doors, since I'm working with mostly recycled materials. Those are pieces of formica, either bookshelves or countertop. So I'm going to spend extra on the best outdoor polyurethane I can. Otherwise, a deep gouge could strip the acrylic off of the plastic surface of the formica. If I had painted directly on unvarnished wood, a deep gouge would do just that... gouge it, not strip off artwork.

Aubrey, can you post pics of your work? I'd love to see!

If you want a sheen instead of shiny surface a not so much risk of yellowing, I use to use Johnson's floor wax, dabbed on w/cotton ball. I don't know if they even make that anymore its been so long since I've done any art that wasn't commissioned and that's only stained or etched glass, but I did run across a bottle of the floor wax last week when I was moving my studio. Back in the day, it was the preferred finish!

I would love to have you paint my laying box area sorta like this. I have no idea how to even preserve this.

Sheryl, I'm going to have a lot of lonely time coming up soon, if you really want one. It looks like I won't have as much money as I want for doing all the projects I wanted to do, but I have plenty of paint. And if it's a piece I can do in my home, such as buying a new door and letting me paint it, then installing it, that would be perfect. Just let me know.

Pam, I'll have to look into Johnson's floor wax. There are so many new products out, though. It's lots better than 20 years ago when I first started doing stuff like this.

No I was just reading that on-line. The Polish Club's web-site said if you separated them from other breeds and kept their run covered, so their crests don't get wet when it rains, then you will solve a lot of the problems associated with raising Polish. Are they exagerrating? Can I put mellow breeds in with them? It wouldn't be hard to do. Keeping them separate I mean. I'm also pretty sure they sent me bantams instead of standards. These chicks are tiny! They've grown a lot but they are still so tiny compared to what I'm used to.

Hi Sunny! I haven't visited in awhile. (My first visit since the website upgrade.)

So, you couldn't resist some new babies?

I'm full up here for the next few years. Even if I built another coop, my yard can't take any more snacking by the chooks. There's nothing left. I've even gone so far as to recommission the chicken tractor for a little garden. I love my chickens, but I need some plants!! Even weeds are a welcome sight at this point. No kidding.

Good to see you! Love the pic of you and Steve!

When I teach self-defense classes, I open up to things that happened.

I am interested in getting everyone in my family to self defense classes. Any suggestions?
I am very aware of the tendency to get sweet talked. So far so good but I am turning blue from holding my breath right now.
And I know exactly what you mean about telling others when it comes to those that know the other person. I've lived with that my entire life when it comes to my father. Abusers excell at charm. They do not look like bad people or they woudl never find victims. Spit and polish always looks suspicious to me.

Thanks! That is because it is a rooster and they have such a regal stance, even as babies

I picked this guy to keep in hopes that he will turn out nice enough to keep as a breeder. I need get some recent pictures of him. He has a gorgeous blue color already

I am a rooster lover which always causes me problems, because I keep way too many of them

Running out to get my cast but wanted to answer. My standards seemed small to. Even they are smaller birds. The bantams are dinky and so cute, but standards are a perfect lap chicken too. Since you do have room, it would be nice to give them their own space, but I think the advice they give is worse case scenario for the most part. Mine even free ranged.
