Nevadans?

Exhausting day, and it's not over yet! I woke up at 8am and told my husband, "I'm going to Lowe's!" He jumped up and came with me, probably to monitor me in the garden department. I can overspend a little there. We worked on the coop from 10am-5:30pm, in this beautiful weather. Actually, it wasn't too bad until the sun went down. The coop is still ugly... I'll take pictures with my phone tomorrow. The digital camera is still busted. But all I have to do is put doors on the nesting boxes and the run door, and then it's totally safe for more chickens. Need to buy a second feeder and waterer, maybe a second water heater. The temp-run will go up really fast... it's just some wire racks topped with poultry netting.

The artwork is going to take a little longer. When it gets in the 60s next week, I'm going to paint over all of the particleboard with gray primer, then when I can afford some more paint I'll do the rockwork.

And to top it all off, the dryer went out a week ago. Laundromats are inconvenient AND expensive when you run your own massage office from your home. Plus a 4-person household worth of laundry. But today I posted on Facebook that I'm in the market for a cheap, used one... and an old friend said she's actually selling hers for $40. So we're going to pick it up tonight, after our next-door neighbor comes and gets the old one. He scraps old appliances out for parts and metal, so he's gotten 5 of our broken appliances so far. Our consumerism involves recycling old stuff, and running it into the ground.

Aubrey, love the pics!

Lacey... grrrr! Do you have a lot of pictures of your birds? I know, if someone took my chickens, I have an entire photo journal of them from chick stage up. Go ahead and try to say they're not mine!

We got 4 eggs today. One in the run, two on the floor and one in the nest box. I saw one of the barred rocks in the box with an egg, so I know which is hers. So that's 2 BR's laying for sure. I made the ramp for the roosts today and got some of the 2x4's up in the run to attach the wire to cover the top. I wasn't super ambitious but got a few things done anyway.

LOL that's what I do. Love the silkie by the roses pic! Soooo dang CUTE!
I like Bruschetta or Olive Oil. I looked a lot like Olive Oil when I was young (the cartoon character not the cooking variety).

I also like Tapenade for an Olive Egger.

Lacey I like the padlock idea but what a shame you have to guard your chickens from your own neighbor!!! I remember you mentioned this horrible person awhile back. Sad sad. I'd take Julie up on her offer! At least talk to her friend and find out what to do if it happens again!

Missy I'm looking forward to seeing the coop all done. It will be the cutest coop ever. Then you'll have to submit it to the next Coop Contest here on BYC. I bet it wins!

I've been very busy lately and finally was able to get on here.

Lacey - that neighbor needs to really learn a lesson here and I think you should take Julie up on that offer as well.

Great going Elizabeth with the eggs.

I was thinking Olive as well Aubrey but since it's taken I just don't have another one.

Well it's time to put the eggs into the incubator in the morning once I get up. I'm not sure about the automatic egg turner though. I want to use it but I hear you should not put duck eggs in there and so does the box to the turner but I placed them in the turner to check and they do fit nicely. I think I'm going to use it anyways. Any issues and then I'll place the eggs on the screen in the bottom.

February 18th will be a fun hatching day. I was thinking perhaps Missy and the family might want to come over and watch them hatch that day so if you want to just let me know. We'll have a great breakfast too with the whole family watching ducklings hatch out all day long and for however long it will take for them to hatch. I've read 31 hours on average but not sure until it happens.

John went to the pet store and bought a new hygrometer and thermometer and boy am I glad he did. The hygrometer we were using wasn't accurate at all which we were suspecting in the first place. We already were over the 60% mark but the other one said only 35% and it still says it.

Okay, gotta get to bed now.

March 18th? Oh, they would love that! With the exception of our church meetings from 11-2 on Sundays, we're pretty free. But if it takes 31 hours to hatch, I'm sure we're not going to be missing the whole event by skipping out for a few hours.

I bet you're so excited about the hatch. I'd be watching the incubator all month! How many eggs did you end up setting?

Sunny, you made me LOL. I had a visual image you resembling olive oil as a child... the cooking kind.

I had to laugh at Sunny's post as well, I can't imagine you looking like Olive Oil!

I just set the eggs, there are 12 eggs in the incubator. Everything is working very well. The eggs fit perfectly on the egg turner. Temp is still coming back up, it's 92 degrees right now. I think it's pretty good since they were put in it 45 minutes ago.

Yeah, you won't be missing anything at all Missy I'm sure. Come when you can.

Well I do have very oily skin and I wasn't fond of washing my hair as a kid!

Sheryl I actually had other kids call me Olive Oyl! *Pretty sure it's spelled that way* I mean I didn't have dark hair or a long sprout nose but I was almost the height I am now in fourth grade and the skinniest thing ever! I looked anorexic before we knew what that was. I wasn't though, trust me! I ate like a horse but I was super hyper and burned through calories like crazy.

Aww, if Petey has babies, can you post pics on here? I bet they'd be hecka cute. Well, I mean anyone, and this is a very open invitation, can post pics of thier chicks whenever.
So I'm almost done creating the Fort Knox of the chicken world for my banties I got from stockton. It's everything-proof. Or so I'm hoping. My neighbor takes my chickens!!! She wont give them back and Im not about to get the cops involved into a chicken war, but seriously? remember me complaining about her last fall? Urg, I hate her. Aparently Ive got some tallented chickens. They unlatch thier cage and fly into her coop, or so she says. This summer we're moving the coop to the other side of the yard. but since my banty pair were so expensive, they get a new home now. :]
Lacey you need to setup a nanny cam to catch this chicken-thieving varmint (with apologies to raccoons

) in the act! That's despicable!
