I have a sick hen. It's one of my BR's Patty, I think she's egg bound. I'm going to soak her in the tub to try to help her pass the egg. She's been laying pretty big size eggs lately and then all at once she stopped laying. Yesterday she seemed off but today she's really not feeling well. I sure hope I can help her. This one scares me a bit.

I guess Poppy beat him up one too many times! So I'm down to only 30 chickens now...

Thanks Sheryl. I hope you can figure out how to help Patty soon! I had a RIR hen with that problem and she was gone quick. Unfortunately I didn't find out 'til afterwards, but I heard that as a last resort only you can take a pencil or something like that and poke a hole in the egg shell, but you have to be careful not to break it completely as that can cause other problems.

I'm going to try to do everything I possibly can. This is day 3 and there's not much time. I'm at work right now so I can't do anything until I get home. John's going to isolate her once he gets home and then I'll take over.

I have a 40"x96" piece of 3/4" thick pressboard left over from building the coop, if anyone wants it. There may be some slight water damage on the sides, where the visqueen blew off and the snow hit it.

Sheryl, I hope Patty gets better soon.

John says she running around with everyone else right now and her comb looks normal. I told him to isolate her anyways before they go to bed and I'll check her out to make sure. Her comb was very dark red just before I left for work and her tail was down.

Yeah Sunny, I won't be able to picture it. How's the bread machine? I just missed you by 2 minutes.

Awww bummer! We should have dallied a little longer. I haven't had a chance to try the machine out yet but I'm going to read the book that came with it tonight to check out recipes and how to operate it. I'll probably wait til after the memorial though. I have so much left to do!!!

I've never tried to keep silkies with full-size fowl but yeah Poppy was very into keeping other roos away from his girls. Time to make chicken stew?
