Nope, Seth's chick is a wheaten Ameraucana. Clean faces, single combs and feathers on the shanks crop up once in awhile still, even from the best breeders
Even more often in the project birds like the lavenders. One of my lavender chicks in this hatch has feathered shanks also. These two were sold as culls

Am I terrible that I think feathered shanks on an Am would be adorable?
Course I don't show so I don't care about SOP. I just love all the cuteness!
I'm getting all suspicious of roos now. I was trying to relax and just enjoy the chicks but it's hard not to guess. From my original batch of 6 from candy, I suspect the buff x wheaten is a roo. he's the biggest and his legs are really thick. then one I think is a wheaten is getting a lot of dark feathers so I'm thinking that's a roo based on what I've read. the lavenders are still smaller so it's hard for me to see the combs. I'm not so good at seeing those rows of peas yet. the other two w/bw I'm not sure yet. I'll have to take some new photos and post later. Of all the new chicks, I'm still trying to see what I've got. The marans are the smallest. I think they are a week younger, maybe? they are both looking rooish but it could be just paranoia.
they are all getting along pretty well so far.
The Marans can be very hard to tell boy from girl when they are young especially by comb size alone. They are a more regal bird so they have a "stance" that looks rooish even in the females. Plus they have really big combs compared to many breeds. The way the tail feathers look when they first start to come in is a dead giveaway though. If I don't mark them at this early stage though I get confused later. The tail difference isn't as well defined when they are a little older.
Of course by 2 months or so they really look different again. Except for that one pullet Aubrey had which Genny thought was a roo and I thought was a girl (sorry Genny is almost always right on gender so I have to remind folks that I was right on this one bird hahaha) they are almost always really obvious by three months for sure. It was the huge comb and wattles that threw Genny off so keep in mind the Marans just do have bigger combs and wattles.
