Nevadans?

That's my problem. I always want to start them too early then they get leggy waiting for decent weather. I need to build a greenhouse. It is sooo windy up here though. Not sure what would hold up. I know plastic won't. Plus I need to rabbit proof it.

I'm starting to feel better today. Funny but the last two years that I got a flu shot I ended up getting the flu that year. I hadn't gotten the flu for years before that! Could just be a coincidence.

Not real cold here, but I like to give my chicks the option of some heat until they act like they don't need it anymore. Yes, I baby them

Haha, I think we are all guilty of that on this thread anyway.

It may not be a coincidence. Some folks are sensitive to the shot. The shot itself can give you the flu if you're one of those folks. My Dad is. They do have an alternative to the shot that works better for these types of folks. I think it is a nasal or oral swab? But don't quote me on that.

What about using them in the garden? I hear you are supposed to use the "castings" - what are those and how do you collect them?

I never heard of meal worm castings. Worm castings I've heard of and used. Great stuff! Genny said they like a cool place and prefer less light. The container you keep them in just needs to have straight sides so they can't crawl out.

Hey Ron how do you keep rabbits out of your garden? There's a gazillion of them out here!

Oops almost forgot! I have update pics.

The newbies. They just got done having a food fight with their mash. I think it's an excuse to get a bath. They seem to like the warm baths. I never had to bathe my chicks repeatedly before this bunch!

Don't these two boys just scream give me some tats and piercings? hahaha

And I'm not sure which girls I'm keeping yet but this little girl is definitely one of them!!! Her crest is HUGE compared to the rest of the girls!

One more. A group shot. Well a third of the group anyway. It's a big brooder. The cardboard is just on the sides to keep them from flying out (these polish are great fliers!).

Same here. This is the first year I've ever gotten a flu shot, and the sickest I've been in 7 years. I lost at least $1,000 in clients this flu season, between several illnesses.

I often see people on Craigslist selling or giving away surplus windows or shower doors. It wouldn't be the prettiest greenhouse, but you could start by making a few cold frames, then reuse the windows as you upgrade to an actual greenhouse.

My greenhouses are going to be plastic sheathes over racks that are close to the ground so they can take advantage of the wooden fences. Of course, I realize not everyone has that type of wind block.

Yeah no wind block up here but I think I could just use straw bales for the sides and back and lean windows from the back bale to a piece of wood in the front. I could use some heavy bags of sand to hold them down. If they are old shower doors I wouldn't even need Steve to move the bags. I could just slide them open! OK off to check CL. Thanks for the tip!

Who said Harley???? haha

Sunny are those dirty chicks the ones that hatched from my eggs? If so I think it hereditary. Chicks here can really be mess and don't care what I do to fix it but nothing has totally worked yet.

Those I do. LOL I love the little Yokos. I had to have Karen help me get a zip tie off of my Silkied AM chick and got to see the ones in her brooder. Plus Aaron was out collecting eggs for you. I have Silver Phoenix in the bator now that are due on the 31st. I sure hope I get some. I tried the first few they laid and they got a couple of veins and stopped, so I hope these do better. I think I set about 7 or 8 of them. I had to stack them in the Sportsman, which is a pain because the turner doesn't work right, so I have to turn eggsby hand and it's packed!
