have a great day everyone! I took photos of my crazy BR who's going frizzle but I'll have to post tonight. I got sidetracked last night. I moved the little chicks out to the divided section of the coop yesterday morning. Well, I figured the almost 12 week olds would have the hardest time with the change and I was right. I went out last night to check on them at dark and all of them were huddled up on the porch by the closed pop door by their old section of the coop. i had to pick them up and move them one at a time into the pop door on the big girl side. they'll get used to it but they weren't happy last night.

You know, when I was a teenager, I had all these romantic views about marriage. Within a week of my first marriage, those were shattered. While I was a single mom, I thought people must be insane to think those romantic views could ever happen, and believed they were mostly a sales pitch for country songs, which fed false expectations in people. Then I married Russ, and all those romantic views came back, and I realized that most of those expectations are what I deserve. Ok, I did really dream about a husband who would dance with me. I can deal without dancing. Mine culls my sick chickens for me!

re: Romantic views.....Ain't that the truth! And if you've never dealt with brothers, then the reality of living with boys/men really crashes down on the "happily ever after." My first two forays I did not pick well and ended up with guys who felt that women should do ALL the work around the house, even if they weren't employed at the time. That was fine when I was in Stepford Wife mode. But you get older and smarter and wiser and, well, older and crankier.

My now DH is an absolute peach. I cook and he does dishes. I vacuum, he mops. And you know what? There is absolutely nothing sexier than seeing a man in the bathroom with a scrub brush and the smell of Clorox.

You asked a few days ago about making cheese. I've been doing it for a while now. If you're just starting, I recommend going onto Amazon.com and getting a couple of the Ricki's cheesemaking kits (which will get you started to see if it's really your thing). As a book, try "200 Easy Homemade Cheese recipes" which gives you both cheese formulas and some after-product recipes in an easy-to-digest format.

Making cheese is kind of like making beer: As long as you keep it clean, the end result is edible. (whether it be eating or cookin' cheese)

I'm having a yogurt renaissance at present. I don't like it too sour or too thin. I've got one recipe that sets up like custard and after a day or two in the Danvier is like a tangy cream cheese. That on a raisin bagel with a little honey and cinnamon is breakfast nirvana for me!

Peep_Show, thanks for the advice. I've actually seen her stuff on Amazon and put it on my wishlist.

Does anyone have any extra used feed sacks lying around? I'm looking for the loose-weave ones, like the Farmer's (cheap brand) 50lb bags. I bought some feed 2 days ago and gave the sacks to a friend so she could grow her potatoes, then realized my last round of potatoes are very sprouted and the hens won't go through 100lbs of feed before I have to plant them. These work well in reusable grocery bags, too, but the feed sacks hold twice as much, so they have the potential to produce more potatoes. Cloth gunnysacks would work well, too. Just not the ones that are woven then covered in a layer of plastic, like the Flock Raiser bags.
