good to know, sheryl. Maybe next year I'll be ready for ducks. We'll see.Wynnie was super ****** the first 2 times I took the ducklings from her. She pecked me really hard but after that she was really good letting me take them and hole them and she took everyone of them back without any issues. I waited until she was on her last egg though.
Elizabeth, the WH's are very quiet. The one that makes the most noise is Justin talking all of the time but drakes are never loud. The females are always the loudest in the duck family. My last hatch for the year is next month and I'll be done hatching because the ducks will be getting ready to slow down on their laying. They just started skipping a day and I've had a couple of soft shelled eggs which happens near the end of their laying season.
bah humbug, I may have a boy here. Yours is much more feathered in than mine. He has some bare patches in the shoulders and remembering how the wyandotte cockerels feathered in slow like that....I will have to snap a photo later to compare.I tried to edit to add a link, but BYC formatting didn't like that.
Here's a site that has a picture of a dark brahma cockerel chick. Photo #8. Huge difference in the color of the feathering.

I wonder why BYC blocked my word here. It wasn't a bad word or anything of the sort. How strange.Wynnie was super ****** the first 2 times I took the ducklings from her.
