Nevadans?

Missy, there are a few diseases that transfer from birds to humans. Please tell you doctor about your chickens being sick. You are falling right in when they can hit humans. A simple blood test works at first to see if you may have anything from your birds.

I'm going in to try to open the store today. Business hasn't been good enough on Tues to warrant employees so I have posted summer hours and closed on Tues but I'm going crazy, getting very depressed with losing my sweet dog and 2 1/2 months of trying to let my back heel so I'm going to try to open and see how long I can make it......so I won't be around to hear any issues!
I hate to be homebound when not feeling well, so hopefully you will have a good day today!

Lol sunny I'm just giving you heck because I finally think we found something that the youth here recognizes that you guys don't! It's the duck that the penguin rode in the old batman movie! Weeee!!!
Wow, yeah, I never would have guessed that was from the "old" Batman movie!

Uggh, an egg eater isn't something I'm looking forward to. A few days ago I though I had one, since I found an uncracked egg with goo on the outside. I looked close and found a bit of shell from another egg. I'm guessing one just broke and got eaten, since I haven't found any other evidence in any of the nests.

Today I stopped by Sierra Feed for some Flock Raiser, and my daughter pointed out the baby chicks. After a brief look, I said, "Don't touch them. Step back." Two of the five chicks had eyes swollen shut, and one lay listless in a corner. After paying, we asked for hand sanitizer. I didn't say, in front of the other customers, "Your chicks are extremely sick." They probably thought we were using sanitizer because Sahara had held a customer's micro-pig. I mean, how could you NOT look at those chicks and see they were sick???

Sorry I haven't been very active on the site. These past two weeks, I've been dealing with extreme exhaustion. Just got back from the doctor, and he's been trying to figure it out. I have to go take a nap right now, so I can go get my kids from school. After 8 hours of sleep I'm still so exhausted that I'm dizzy and nauseated, needing 2 naps a day. The garden isn't getting planted, and is barely getting watered. Which isn't so bad, considering the cold snap this weekend, but still... I don't have time for this kind of stuff!

Oh no, I hope you feel better soon Missy!

I'll say a prayer for you right now!

I don't know if I would go to Sierra Feed any more if I were you.

Oh MAN!!! Missy! You poor thing! Haven't you been through enough already? Exhaustion is a symptom for sooo many things. Glad you have a doctor that is working hard to figure it out. Let me know if there is anything we can do to help out. I come into town at least once a week if you need shopping or something else done (just can't lift more than a gallon of milk at a time). Just give me a holler!

Where is Sierra Feed? I want to avoid that feed store.

Thanks. Tests ruled out a lot of big stuff. I'm guessing it's Epstein Barr, since my son is also acting very fatigued. I thought he was just putting on a growth spurt, since he's almost 6 foot tall (turns 13 in July) then I started getting super-tired. I had mono when I was 19, and I've heard EB is like varicella: once you get it, it can stay with you forever, popping up once in awhile. They say it's one of the causes of fibromyalgia. Serious??? I'm 35! I want another 10 years or so before I start feeling old!

I kind of want to call people up and say, "Can you harvest my spinach and blanch it for me, so it can start growing back and give me more harvest?" but that's a bit to ask. Friends have offered to help cook for me, but I taught my kids how to cook for themselves a few years ago. My husband is really helping out, too.

Sierra Feed is the one in the 6500-7000 block of S. Virginia, by Dry Creek Garden. It's between the Target and where Longley comes out. We usually go there because it's close to where my husband works, and I just have him pick up a sack of feed on the way home. Green's Feed is just as close... it's just in a different direction. Looks like we're going to Green's from now on! (Plus, one of the ladies who worked at Sierra could have better customer service. I'm big on cashiers actually being friendly to people.)

The same unfriendly cashier lady just brushed me off a month or so ago when I said, "Did you know one of your chicks is really pasted up?" She just gave me an annoyed look and said, "We're really busy here."

Seth, I can't wait to see pictures! Looks like my doe wasn't pregnant. I just assumed she was, because of things that rabbits do when boy meets girl. So we'll be butchering 2 bucks soon. Maybe this weekend, if I get feeling well enough. It'll be warm enough to put seeds in, but a little cold to transplant eggplant and peppers.

Oooooooo! Babies are coming, babies are coming! This time it's little teeny tiny wabbits! Congrats Seth! I can't wait for pics.

Missy, this is very plausible on where this virus came from now. It could have easily traveled from there on the feed bags and then to your house where the mice scattered it around. What I was mentioning is a very rare disease that does happen at times. It's sometimes called the parrot disease. It can be on any type of bird and it's transmitted to humans. Read the symptoms and you'll see what you had matches it to a Tee! It can cause swelling but it also cannot cause swelling but the breathing, discharge and the smelly diarrhea all matches what you had. There is also a bloody discharge as well sometimes. Each bird is different. They sometimes don't even show they have it. Check out this link. Tell the doctor to check for it just in case. I don't want to cause drama but I don't want you to get sicker or your family if this is the case.

I have heard nothing but bad about Sierra Feed. First was Aubrey and then 3 or 4 others. Now Missy twice. Now I know I will never go there ever. My doctor went there for her baby chicks but they didn't have what she was looking for. She ended up at the Lemmon Valley store. She was extremely happy with them. I didn't even know about that store until I passed it on the freeway going and coming from Elizabeth's picking up Lacey.

I'll let Steve know how well she is doing. He felt so bad and this will make him feel a lot better!
Quote: OK I've been there once and the cashier wasn't very polite. We never went back again. I'll stick with 1 Stop. The folks there are so sweet and helpful and it's a family run business which I like. Well, I have to admit that the great prices don't hurt either! lol

I'm not much help when it comes to bending, harvesting and cooking for very long but I can do errands for you. I'm still very good at driving, even long distances, so if you need the kids run anywhere or anything like that let me know!
