So, that's what's going on at High 'N Dry Farm. I saw my surgeon on Thursday and I'm not released to work or drive....really fighting depression right now. Same farm, different day.....
Hi.. not from Nevada.. however I was directed here to meet some folks who have bunnies? Hopefully not intruding. I'm looking to chat with anyone who's got buns and can offer up some advice on hutch design..
thanks so much,
Nancie
After a week of letting the broody Mama bring her 11 chicks out of the grow out pen into a makeshift run where everyone could get a gander at the newbies, I took down the fencing and off she went with 11 fuzzy butts in tow! Mama #2 is still keeping her perimeter post and tending to any wanderers. They are taking them all over the property!
Yesterday they were so far from their coop that I thought I should offer the chicks some water but by the time I could get a bowl the two mama's had taken them back to the coop for a drink! They're amazing moms!
At night they're so cute trying to get a spot under mom! She's spread out as big as she can and the chicks look like garnish surrounding her! Their butts underneath and their heads pocking out! It's a lot of chicks for one mom, good thing it's been warm, although its raining today. The other mom is not allowed in the brooder, she sleeps in the coop with the rest of the chickens but keeps her post guarding the perimeter all day!

Guineas eat scorpions all the time and they don't bother them at all. They should be fine.
I think you're right about my brahma being a pullet, Missy. I searched a few more threads to see some cockerel pictures. the males come in with more black and white feathers with a solid black chest. But mine has the pencilled feathering which is how pullets look. Yay!![]()
Awww, the picture you paint of the 2 Mom's and the chicks is soooo cute! So sorry your doc hasn't cleared you to work. After a week of letting the broody Mama bring her 11 chicks out of the grow out pen into a makeshift run where everyone could get a gander at the newbies, I took down the fencing and off she went with 11 fuzzy butts in tow! We sure enjoy having you hang out with us though!!!![]()

Sheryl keep us updated on the prices in Yerington! I gotta cut my costs here too. It's getting out of hand.
Well update on the marans. I am getting eggs now so apparently we either took care of the perpetrator or the oyster shell is helping. Still not getting as many eggs as we should though so I will keep my eyes peeled for awhile yet.
The other issue with the first flock is the egg color has gone from super dark to not even qualifying as marans!!! Looks like the first dark eggs were a temporary gift! Not sure what to do with these birds now. I'm not getting dark eggs and I'm not getting very many.![]()
On a happy note, I got my first egg from the second coop!!! YAY!!!I don't care how many times you've gone through it, it sure is exciting to get that first egg. I got a second one too from that coop and it is pretty good sized for a pullet egg!!!![]()
Kim these are your girls that we were hoping for lav or olive eggs from but both eggs are brown. Still exciting as my list of egg customers is growing but I am not getting a lot of eggs right now. Good thing Genny is! My customers are still getting their eggs thanks to her!
Sorry about your bunny Seth! That stinks!
I sure hope you get lavender eggs. I haven't gotten on in a couple of weeks. I think they're messing with me. Have you gotten any that are almost a light gray? That how the lavender eggs started off and then they went to lavender. What cuties! Thanks for the pics!
Growing potatoes is easy peasy! One of the easiest crops to grow I think.
