Nevadans?

Elizabeth I went from construction to computers, the highest risk occupation for carpal tunnel to the second-highest. So needless to say I developed carpal tunnel. I had the surgery on both wrists. I had a severe case, though, to the point where it would wake me up at night from the pain and I couldn't clench or straighten out my fingers. The surgery is a hassle (though thankfully not very painful) because it takes 6 weeks to heal and each wrist has to be done seperately. But the good news is, I haven't been bothered by it since!

That's so good to hear! I've heard from so many people who go in for therapeutic surgery and come out the same or worse than before. Feet and legs, mostly.

I went to see the dr today for my hand numbness. She thinks it is carpal tunnel. I have a wrist brace to wear, will take some anti inflammatory meds, ice the wrist at lunch and in the evening and see if there is improvement in the next month or two. if not, then i'll see a specialist. Could require surgery down the road but hopefully not. So far, I hate the wrist brace but I'll have to get used to it. It's hard to type with it.

hope you get some internet access figured out soon, Sunny! we need you on here more than that!
Before you opt for surgery, is it perhaps water retention? I had a horrid bout of what I thought was carpal tunnel a couple of years ago. the doc prescribed some diuretics (water pills). It worked! It's not so far-fetched, if you think about it. Extra water swelling narrows the space for the nerves and tendons. Do your feet swell? Do you get puffy with inactivity or at certain times of the month or after eating certain foods? (chinese food seems to be a big culprit)

I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on television, but I'm just saying.....

the other nerve problems I've had had to do with shoulder straps (from carrying bags and computers) pressing down on the area between the neck and cap of the upper arm and resultant arm and hand numbness. Without my hands, I'm out of a career. (And I'm never keen on surgery, no matter how minor...)

Hope you're feeling better soonly!

that's good it worked for you. I've also heard of people that didn't have good results.

it's certainly possible. I puff up with salty foods and with wheat/grains. I've been trying to cut out bread and pasta but haven't gotten myself fully on board yet. Starchy carbs are hard to kick. It's worth a shot to see if it can help. I really do not want surgery. I don't have any pain at this point--just the numbness in the thumb. anyway, thanks for the well wishes and ideas.

I can't even remember what it was called, but I also have this in my elbows. I call it bartender's elbow. I had Bill around, so I left medical jargon to him. What an idiot I am huh? Bill was a Surgical RN, but he also did therapeutic massage. GOD! My back has been killing me lately and I need him. Anyway, two woman we knew had needed surgery on their wrists and he worked on them 3 times each. NO surgery. So when I got it in my wrists, he worked miracles for me. Thought I was gonna die. The pain was so horrible and the fact that I don't handle pain (had 5 of my kids with natural child birth, arrrggg) I kept bugging him to hurry up and finish my wrists. Needed a wait time in between though.

Maybe there's someone on here who needs to do this and specialize in it. hint hint

that's good to hear that therapeutic massage can help. I am a big believer in physical therapy. I had a tailbone problem several years ago and the physical therapy really helped and being pregnant solved it for good (loosened up the ligaments). I had several different ones and finally got a really good one. I ended up paying privately for awhile after the insurance sanctioned visits ran out. I had tried chiropractic and did not find it worked for that issue. anyway, I will definitely ask for physical therapy before going the surgery route. or see if Missy wants to barter for any of my chickens again.

well, I think she probably doesn't want any more and I don't really want to part with any more right now. Maybe I can afford some massage once my husband gets working again. seriously I could use physical therapy or therapeutic massage on a weekly basis. My back and neck are so tight.

My neck, back and shoulders were so bad when I met Bill. For 2 years I thought I was going to need surgery. A massage never helped much at all, but one night he rubbed my neck and I could turn it. Something I couldn't do for almost a year. I was in the gym every day and getting massages and nothing was helping. It was also 3 times of him working on me that my shoulders relaxed and I didn't feel like they were up by my ears. Just think how much better I would have felt if I had taken my clothes off for him to work all the muscles. Thing is that was a goal for him anyway and to get me to go out with him. If he hadn't wanted anything to do with me I would have been more cooperative. I used to tell him I married him for his money and for my massages. At least the massages lasted longer.

You know, chickens aren't the only thing I'm willing to trade for.

I always try to throw this out there to clients... if it's something my family can use, I'll happily trade for it. All my income goes toward things for the family, anyway.

I don't know why this made me laugh. I think of country doctors taking chickens when you talk about trade.

I'm back! I went to the grand canyon and missed the chicken swap

Sounds like one of many things you miss about him. I have mentioned to my husband several times about training for massage or physical therapy as I could use one in the family!

He hasn't taken that route yet.

Ok, I will be thinking. you're so self sufficient, though. Not sure what I can come up with
