Nevadans?

We've had a single rooster for over a year now and the neighbors that we know on out street and next to us have been kind an enjoyed him an said the roosters don't bother them, but I have never met any of the people behind us and have always been curious about how they've felt about it, and now that we have three I was thinking of sending them letters with my phone number on it to ask if the crowing has ever bothered them. I could just wait forever to see if I ever get that dreaded note from the city on my door but I'm not sure I want to be that neighbor
hmm.png
I don't know, I was thinking something like " hey were the people in the neighborhood with the roosters. We keep them for raccoon protection, but the good graces of our neighbors is much more important so please let me know if they wake you or if you have been upset by their presence in the past year." when I am in my house with windows shut and AC on I can barely hear them and the neighbors behind us are about twice the distance from the birds and live on a busy street, so I always just hoped they keep their windows shut and couldnt hear them unless they were outside too. I just wanna be a good neighbor but I honestly don't want to go door to door bak there because I don't know what kind of people they are

That's how I feel. I tell my neighbors that I can't fix the problem if I don't know it's a problem, so PLEASE talk to me before animal control. That way I can find out exactly what the problem is, and fix it. Aubrey, I would give them notes, just to relay your good intentions, and hopefully head off that dreaded note if it is a problem. There are always those passive-aggressive people who would never tell you directly because they're too chicken to face you in person, so they call animal control instead. I hope none of us have to deal with those people.

ETA: It might as well be aimed at both of us. We're both living right in the middle of the city, dealing with close neighbors.

My chicken yard is directly beside my massage office. If it doesn't disturb a session, I assume it's not a problem. Barking dogs, even 4 doors down, do disturb a session.

We had a good time camping, despite a very rainy Monday. There was a big thunderstorm during the night and then all day Monday it rained off and on. But there were brief sunny times in between and we still had a good time.

But the great news is I now have a new job doing what I love to do and my new boss is AWESOME!

I'm looking forward to this very new exciting adventure!
congrats on your new job! glad it's something you enjoy and day shift will be better for your health.
Elizabeth, I hope Jose loves his new job. I like the 3-12 hour shifts myself but it sounds like he will be at work when you're home and you'll be at work when he's home if he has the Fri-Sun shift? Let's hope he gets the shift that works well with both of you.
thanks, sheryl. turns out he has Saturday through Monday shift. 4 a.m. to 3:30 pm It will actually work out pretty good for us. He can be home for the kids when they get out 4 days of the week. I can come home early on Mondays. Also when they are off track, he can be home with them 4 days a week. That will save us a lot since we won't need before/after school care or care during the off track times. He starts on Saturday. for 4 weeks, he'll work 8-5 on those saturdays for training. he'll work his regular schedule on Sundays and Mondays. the only bummer is he will have to miss the kids' saturday soccer games. he's the coach. he'll be able to go to practice during the week but the other parents will have to take turns during the games.

I'm doing great. I went to my liver doctor on Friday and was given good news with a touch of bad news. The good news is, I won't need a liver transplant for another 10 years if ever. He said if he does his job well then it will be never. The live liver donor program was stopped a few years ago because 2 donors died and he said that just can't happen. It's just now slowly coming back but they need to take baby steps to make sure the donor will survive the donation. If the time comes I need a liver transplant will need to be from a cadaver only. Besides, I really had to think about the living liver donor after I read what the liver donor would go through. Whomever wanted to donate a liver would be in the hospital 6 to 8 weeks at UCSF. I just can't imagine anyone wanting to be stuck in a hospital for up to 2 months?

I have 2 liver diseases, 100% positive. I have NASH and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin. I'll be getting a drug infusion every 3 to 4 weeks for life of the Alpha-1 Antitrypsin from blood plasma. this really makes me appreciate blood donors even more than before. Sunny & Steve and everyone else who donates their blood is really a life saver. I've never had a blood transfusion let alone just getting plasma.

I was so tired today, I asked if I could go home early and my manager said yes. I didn't last long at home and before I knew it, I was in bed sleeping. I just woke up for a bit and now I'm off to go to bed again.

I hope the treatments will work. Sorry you have 2 diseases. that's some bad luck. sounds like you have a good doctor, though.
Congratulations to José on his job Elizabeth! My niece has worked for Wal-Mart for the last 6 years or so and she really likes it. They like to promote from within and good people can move up quickly. She has managed several departments including the deli, bakery, and electronics and is currently managing the auto and hardware at the new store in Stead. She is in line to become an assistant store manager soon. Have fun on your camping trip - should be really nice up there!
thanks, Ron. should be a good job for him.
If we can't meet for awhile, go ahead and drink the drinks. Of course, we can definitely make use of all of them. If you come down into this area on a day off or we head up there, we can get together.

I went out to candle again, and I ended up putting 8 of the 9 back in the nest because I'm still too inexperienced with this. One had an obvious oozing going on, and that went right into the trash. Garbage pickup is today and I wanted to get rid of the rotten ones, but I just wasn't sure on the others. They all smelled foul for being next to the evil one. Of the others, only 2 looked super good. Two others looked like they had started developing later, and the rest were totally dark inside. I'll assume that's a bad sign. But I just put those 8 back. Hatch day is supposedly tomorrow.

I also candled the eggs I got in the mail on Thursday. They're light brown, green, and blue, so they were easier to candle. But if anything is growing, it's still too early to tell.

for your hatches.
Then there is Gregory Peck. Holy moly that rooster is a TEENAGER. Hes is so awkwrdly tall that he cant really walk anywhere without tripping on himself. He fell off the railing of the deck the other day when he stepped on his own foot while walking across it. His tail feathers have come out and are in a funny in-between place. Hes been learning to mate and has been ravaging my poor little silkie girl (who takes it like a champ!), but every now and then lets Mr Pants flog him as a reminder of whos girls they really are. He is so skittish and terrified of me, and on top of it when he crows it LITERALLY sounds like an old goose dying. Yep, a goose. He is SO LOUD. Too bad, too, that he didnt get more gold in. I doubt he will have any on his head or tail. Boo :( sure woulda been nice if he at least had a good personality.
anyways, 100 pictures for you!
I am just outside of Carson City... Anyone else by Carson??

welcome! Ron is somewhere out that way. What sorts of chickens do you have?

Welcome ChickenGurl101!

Elizabeth, I'm glad your camping trip went well. It got pretty wet down here too, but I made sure not to complain about it. The last thing I want to do is jinx that!

Ok sorry, but I need to take a moment to brag. Sahara's "eggplant enchiladas" consisted of a filling of roasted eggplant, swiss chard, red onions (all from the garden,) and fresh mozzarella. She rolled it in corn tortillas and topped with a sauce made of fresh tomatoes, pressed garlic, and chipotle. Sprinkled on garlic-roasted sweet corn, baked for a half hour, and topped with more cheese. Then she served it with Cacique sour cream, which is WAY better than any of that cornstarch-thickened American stuff. Oooooh it is sooo good! It seems she has a natural knack for knowing which flavors go well together.

those enchiladas sound good! that knack will serve her very well in life. I am shocked at how many people do not know how to cook. During the summers, my sister and I would trade off cooking lunch. I liked to look through cook books and try new things. My kids like to help cook too. they need quite a bit of guidance at this age but they are learning more and more.

I'm glad it rained down here as well. never will turn down some free water for the garden!

OK apparently I lost a few multiquotes during one of the offline times when I was kicked off...

Elizabeth congrats to you and Jose for such a great job and schedule!!! Glad you had such a great visit with your folks! :)

Aubrey I loved the pics!!! And your narrative had me laughing out loud! LOL
I also loved the wording you used on your proposed note to the neighbor but I won't give advice on whether to deliver it. I don't want to feel like I encouraged something that might turn out badly (I know I'm such a chicken).

Missy, Steve and I did not get all the flags set this weekend and the coops still need work but these are jobs involving power tools (well the flags could be set without the dril but it still takes a bit of skill to set them with the epoxy and all so they don't blow out) so this does not help you with a job for young son. Sorry.

I would be nervous leaving any eggs in the nest that smell! The bacteria from one egg can spread to the others and an exploding egg, from what I've heard, is a pretty nasty experience.

Omg I just wrote that whole thing out and realized your question was aimed at MISSY, AHAHAHAHA!
Lol oh well.
I thought it was aimed at you too (haha, no pun intended on Missy's last name), since you mentioned the one mellow crower.
I am just outside of Carson City... Anyone else by Carson??
Hi ChickenGurl! We have a couple of folks out that way. Welcome to the Nevada thread!

If Verizon will quit booting me off (I've been trying to post for almost 2 hours now) I will add your name to the opening post when I'm done here. :)

Pleeeeease let me stay connected while I submit this!!!

ARRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!! I live in a black hole!

Oops! I missed a few posts while I was trying to get back on-line to submit.

Missy tell Sahara "Great Job!".

Lacy I know a lot of folks that can't follow a recipe to save their lives! Being able to get a recipe to turn out well is nothing to sneeze at. :)

I hate recipes. Really. I'll try one once, to get the hang of a certain food style. But when I follow recipes, it rarely turns out to my satisfaction. I think my family has just developed a certain taste, and a lot of recipes, especially ones written for an American diet, just don't taste good enough. And when I bake, and I follow a recipe perfectly and it still fails... grr, frustrating.

I am shocked at how many people do not know how to cook.

Uh yeah. I think that happened today. I walked out to see Sahara messing around under my broody, and I started to chastise her for messing with eggs that are due to hatch. She said, "No, I was just removing the broken one." I had checked two hours earlier, and none were broken. And tonight, boy does the coop smell nasty!!! I'm very glad of our good ventilation.

But I don't know what others are, since the stink from one rubs off on the others. And I don't want to go messing around in there tomorrow, if we have eggs pipping on another super hot day. Hopefully no more will explode, especially on a baby.
