Bahahaha! That'll do the trick! As some of you know last year I got 25 chicks from Ideal and 2 were hens

Hi everybody, sadly we have to leave Reno and can not bring our flock with us, we have 2 naked necks, 2 barred rocks, 2 production reds, 3 silver laced wyandotts, and one BEAUTIFUL girl thats kind of a buff color with silver lacing and her comb is almost non-existent but we're not sure of her breed and our rooster (from the pictures) he's really good with the hens, he's not violent but very protective of them, and he's also good with our kids he has never even so much as pecked at one of us. I will be off work at 2:00 today and you can text me at 775-622-7282. These birds are all free to a GOOD HOME, the hens are all good layers and we dont want them to be dinner next week. also, all birds are under a year old, except the wyandotts, they are a year and a half
you can have em, they're really funny, when you go to pick them up, they squat down like they're waiting for a rooster, they dont try to run or anythingI'm sorry you have to get rid of your birds. I'd be interested in the naked necks but I need to focus on not getting anymore birds. ( buy I rreeeaaalllyyy want those naked necks!)
JWBullfrog, sorry you have to leave and get rid of your flock! I'd be interested in the buff/silver one, but I think Russ would take issue if I got more chickens right now. We're at 23 currently, soon down to 21.
(Ok... deep breath...)
I'm about to blow my top at one little faverolle hen! Seriously, if you're going to start hopping in broody nests and eating eggs complete with the little embryos, can you at least NOT be one of my favorite chickens of all time???
Yesterday another egg broke. I figured it was just horrible luck and tried to put more padding in the nest. We were down to 7 of 12 hatching eggs. This morning, I let the chickens out, then went and checked the broodies. 7 eggs, still in great condition. Then Cacciatore got down to eat. I always know when she does because she makes a big fuss about the hurry she's in to get back to her job. I went into the nest and there as Loco, eating an egg. WITH an EMBRYO!!! That just did it for me. I could forgive egg eating. But this is just wrong.
I moved the remaining 6 eggs into a caged off area that I used for the younger chickens while they were still little. There is a dog crate in there with straw and a locking door. I was planning on putting moms and chicks in it after hatch. So I moved all 6 eggs. And, worrying that the move would break a broody, I put both of them in there and let them decide who would keep sitting. I was really worried that I would have to call and ask people to egg-sit for me, but it looks like Sour has taken the eggs back. Whew. I'm going to keep Cacciatore in there anyway, since they're good friends. Maybe they can tag-team or something.
Anyone want a stewing chicken? We don't want to kill her because she's in the Top 3 favorites of all time. Russ is even sad that she has to go. But I'll let someone else do it. I mean... what else are they going to do with her?
I think I'd only be more upset if it had been Original.
ETA: Ok, the two broodies keep going into the nest, looking around, and jumping back out. I might have just broken both of them.

I am so glad to hear your chick is doing well!![]()
Is it possible that she has mites or lice? I suggest getting some FOOD GRADE (very important-do not use the kind for bug control or pool filters) DIATOMACEOUS EARTH at the feed store and lightly sprinkling it under her wings, vent area and neck, under her feathers, being sure it reaches the skin. It is a natural bug killer, but very powdery and you don't want the chick or yourself breathing it in so apply lightly. For the wound you can use Blue Kote (at the feed store) if she is going back in with other chickens so they won't peck at her wound or get some Bag Balm at the feed store or the drug stores carry it. It is an antiseptic that you can use on yourself and animals. A little goes a long way so apply lightly. It is very thick and gooey like vaseline.
This is what the Bag Balm looks like~

Oh no! Wish you were closer I would put them under my BLRW broody for youThe good news is, if you read my post about my bantam BLRW eggs, the hen got off the nest twice and the eggs got cold and still hatched a couple of days late. It must be real hot at your house since it is 99 here today so the eggs should be fine. Hoping they decide to settle down and stay on the eggs
You might try putting some of the nesting material from the original nest in the new nesting box so they think they are on the same nest![]()

Uhn uh!!! I was the only one that said she looked like a girl but that you should probably listen to Genny cause she is usually right about gender guesses. I can't forget that! It was the first time I was right when Genny had said the opposite!! Hahahahaha!ooookay! Three eggies left and theyre due on sunday <3 One has a broken airsac but is still developing, does it even stand a chance? Also what should I do with my mama who is already in the broody pen? She is crazy protective and I wont trust her around the other two broodys when theyre eggs are about to hatch. her chick will be three weeks....should I just make them a seperate pen or something?
Missy youre hecka brave to rehome your marans so young! Everyone thought mine was a boy right up until the day she layed an egg, haha
My kids loved kindergarten. It was very traumatic for me though! LOLMy babies started kindergarten today! can't believe how fast the time has flown by. My husband finished his first 3 days of work (12 hr shifts) and is quite tired but it has gone well.
Awwwwww! More babies! We may be interested in a few since almost all the polish we hatched from you turned out to be boys.Yay, great to see some action on here.
Missy, sounds like you'll get more then one chick this go around and yes, I'd move the mom and her chick away from the new ones. At least until the new ones are settled with mom and then introduce everyone.
I'm getting pretty good at this broody game and I have two more at it right now! One is the broody who stoled all the chicks from the other mom (but she did let her co-parent). I am surprised she went for another.
The BIG surprise is that one of the Polish hens has gone broody and takes it very serious! She's like in a trance.
I knew the Polish had started a few days ago and when I asked my husband about her he kept referring to the black hen, but the Polish is Silver laced so after some discussion I tell I'm talking about in the barn. I told him I ran those girls off everyday and they were just laying and I pick up the eggs....so to clarify, wrong color hen and in the opposite side of the stall! And this girl is on a load of eggs! Actually so is the Polish, the other are continuing to lay in with her which explains the noisy morning.
I'm going to move the box a couple of feet over and set up a portion of the coop for her and the chicks.
I was wishing I would have caught the other chicken sooner, I would have stuck Polish eggs along with the EE's under her.
The last 10 are about 2 months, so we'll be adding another 10-16. I think they'll hatch more not being next to each other. No stealing chicks and abandoning the nest.
So if anyone's interested in possible show quality Polish and some beautiful EE's I'll have some in a few weeks!
HUH?Everyday is eventful when it start with your dad yelling there is a hawk in the kitchen.
Oh that is sad! I've been there. Hope you find good homes for them!Hi everybody, sadly we have to leave Reno and can not bring our flock with us, we have 2 naked necks, 2 barred rocks, 2 production reds, 3 silver laced wyandotts, and one BEAUTIFUL girl thats kind of a buff color with silver lacing and her comb is almost non-existent but we're not sure of her breed and our rooster (from the pictures) he's really good with the hens, he's not violent but very protective of them, and he's also good with our kids he has never even so much as pecked at one of us. Thanks AubreyBoth eggs hatched on day 22 and 23
They must have been late from that day the hen got off of the nest twice and the eggs got cold. Amazing what they can go through and still hatch!! One is a blue laced red and one is a splash laced red. Hoping one is a rooster since I have 3 pullets from the first hatch.![]()
