Nevadans?

I didn't think so, but I didn't know you had another Marans
hmm.png
That is a breed I don't have but have been trying to make room for. Actually have my eye on some hatching eggs that are Copper Blues with a chance of Splash

I have a couple of eggs in the incubator that are on day 22. They are bantam BLRWs. These poor eggs have been through a lot. Only 4 (one quit so down to 3) out of 18 grew (the trio Kirstie and I bought have fertility issues) then I had 3 staggered hatches going (in both incubators) and the first one was long and drawn out hatching so I couldn't put the next batch into the hatching incubator, so I had to put the 3 BLRW eggs under a broody, and she moved off of them and into another nest box twice!

The second time the eggs got pretty cold and one of the chicks died, so down to 2 eggs. I finally got the two eggs back into the incubator and both had active chicks when I candled. Then yesterday while I was gone the power went out for over an hour!!!

The good news is that one has pipped this morning

Now hopefully both will hatch or I will be on the hunt for a newly hatched chick so it has a friend.
Nah I have a black copper marans that i hatched from sunnys eggs a year and a half ago. This thing SCREAMED rooster from the very beginning. Oh man, it was attitudy, walked tall, had a HUGE comb at five weeks, and fooled everyone. Now she is a realiable and bossy head hen hahaa

Missy i cant wait to see the new birds! How pretty andilusians are!

GOOOOOOD LUCK LITTLE EGGIES!!!

Hi everybody, sadly we have to leave Reno and can not bring our flock with us, we have 2 naked necks, 2 barred rocks, 2 production reds, 3 silver laced wyandotts, and one BEAUTIFUL girl thats kind of a buff color with silver lacing and her comb is almost non-existent but we're not sure of her breed and our rooster (from the pictures) he's really good with the hens, he's not violent but very protective of them, and he's also good with our kids he has never even so much as pecked at one of us. I will be off work at 2:00 today and you can text me at 775-622-7282. These birds are all free to a GOOD HOME, the hens are all good layers and we dont want them to be dinner next week. also, all birds are under a year old, except the wyandotts, they are a year and a half

What are you feeding them? Wyandottes seem especially susceptible to thiamine (B12) deficiency from medicated chick starter. First thing I do when a chick seems weak is put vitamins (I like GQF vitamins plus that you can purchase at the feed store or Polyvisol baby vitamins without iron purchased at the drug store) in their water along with a tablespoon of organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar. I also give finely ground whole grain cereal to my chicks because it is high in the B vitamins. I do not feed medicated chick starter since it blocks their systems from absorbing thiamine. I use either Purina Flockraiser or an organic chick starter. Another thing to look for is if she is a shavings eater. I have had this happen many times, in fact I just had one of my bantam buff Brahma chicks start going downhill and acting very lethargic and I suspected she was eating shaving so I watched her and when the other chicks were eating she was wandering around picking at the shavings and eating them :(   I had to take all of the shavings out and use clean play sand instead. After I did that and put the vitamins and vinegar in their water she got all better.

I hope this helps :)

THANK YOU! We are applying your suggestions!
She seems to be doing well. We did have to seperate her as she keeps scratching her neck and now has an opened wound we are trying to heal.
Any suggestions for that? I've put neosporin on it, but how do you keep a chick from scratching?
Thanks again! I'll keep you updated!

I am so glad to hear your chick is doing well!

Is it possible that she has mites or lice? I suggest getting some FOOD GRADE (very important-do not use the kind for bug control or pool filters) DIATOMACEOUS EARTH at the feed store and lightly sprinkling it under her wings, vent area and neck, under her feathers, being sure it reaches the skin. It is a natural bug killer, but very powdery and you don't want the chick or yourself breathing it in so apply lightly. For the wound you can use Blue Kote (at the feed store) if she is going back in with other chickens so they won't peck at her wound or get some Bag Balm at the feed store or the drug stores carry it. It is an antiseptic that you can use on yourself and animals. A little goes a long way so apply lightly. It is very thick and gooey like vaseline.

This is what the Bag Balm looks like~

Both eggs hatched on day 22 and 23
ep.gif
They must have been late from that day the hen got off of the nest twice and the eggs got cold. Amazing what they can go through and still hatch!! One is a blue laced red and one is a splash laced red. Hoping one is a rooster since I have 3 pullets from the first hatch.
