Nevadans?

Well, I lost my little handicapped girl today. I never expected her to live this long (1 1/2 years) and I feel so bad because she had gotten down to the step down portion of the coop and couldn't get back up so couldn't get to the food and water. I've been working (even though I haven't been released to go back to work) because I had to fire an employee so my husband was taking care of the chickens and he didn't notice she wasn't in her regular spot. Poor sweet girl. She was a trooper and taught me a lot about the will to live. RIP Sweet Girl.

Been so quiet around here. Sunny, hope you find better reception or you need to move!

Sunny, on the chicks you hatched from my eggs, did you have any white legged chickens? I got two from this last batch. I have a white roo with white legs. I was wondering what it means genetically, if anything.

That's cute! I thought of something like that when I built my coop, or at least making a shelf up there so I could load it up with bucket planters. It would work great in an area that receives rain in any measurable amounts.

I'm sorry about your little chicken! That's a pretty long life for a special needs girl.

I agree! Probably tomorrow... today my schedule is packed. Which isn't a bad thing.

We've gotten 4 blue eggs from Noodle so far. But none from Jerk. I didn't even expect any from Noodle until October...

I have 3 EE eggs sitting under a broody right now, plus some cochin/orp eggs. I told my family that, since we have ladies laying eggs of the same color, to put back any eggs that have pencil markings on the dull end. If they crack any of those open, they will have a VERY unpleasant surprise. Today is day #10 and 8 of the 12 eggs are growing! We even saw a couple of the embryos move. So cool!

October thats not right they were born on march 7th so they are 21 weeks old or 5months so they should start form now to agust september at the lastest

Yeah, but I didn't want to disappoint myself, so I just told myself October. My chickens last year that were hatched in April started laying in October, and I've heard that ameraucanas lay later. I just went with October to be safe.

I really need help! ASAP. I found my buff orpington this morning just laying in one of the nesting boxes, not laying an egg or puffing up when I touched her. I came back from church, and saw her in the corner of our fence in the shade. I picked her up and immediately knew someting was wrong, she is very shy and when ever I would have to pick her I, I would be chasing her around for five minutes. I put her on the other side of the fence where there is a lot more shade, and put out water and food. I also checked her vent to see if she was egg-bound, but I didn't feel any egg. Does anyone know what is wrong with her?

I hope you were able to figure out what was wrong. I dont' have any experience with that.

My buff x wheaten was checking out the nest boxes yesterday but hasn't laid yet. I expect her to start soon. My wheaten and blue wheaten look like they could be starting soon.

Has anyone on here ever made vinegar? Intentionally? I've decided that, since I have more than enough jelly this year, I want to turn my grapes into vinegar. I'm Googling all over the place, but everything is telling me to either use a storebought wine, or to just soak the fruit in water then set it in my cupboard (sounds cheap and liable to go bad), or buy expensive brewing equipment. I'm not looking to make a good wine, since we don't drink in the first place, but how to make the vinegar end product.
