Nevadans?

I've been keeping my eye on Loco today, trying to see if she's really an egg eater or if she just ate what Cacciatore broke. Right now she's nest-hopping. She's sitting on her third nest today. And her head is twitching, like she got into (veiled drug reference.) I have no idea what's up. I keep going out there whenever I can to see if I can figure something out. I caught her digging in the bedding, but I don't know if she's looking for bugs or eggs to eat, or just a nervous habit. I didn't feel an egg in her, so I don't think she's egg-bound. Plus, she hasn't really laid in awhile anyway.

Adding new chickens is always fun

Do you mean a white laced red Wyandotte? otherwise called a "Splash." There are 3 color combinations when breeding Blue laced red Wyandottes, which are Blue laced red, Black laced red and White laced red

Hope you are practicing common sense chicken management and quarantining your new chickens

I breed Andalusians and so am familiar with the blue genes. The "white" variety is called "splash". Why would it change because the bird is a wyandotte? It's still the blue gene. I could be wrong, but I believe that "splashLRW" is correct.

Actually, you are right. I just had a conversation with a bantam BLRW breeder who said the "splash" colored bantam Wyandottes can be shown as a white laced red, so that was on my mind.

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe the white laced red variety is in the cornish chicken breed. There may be others. But I don't think it is a variation of the blue gene... just white. Is white laced red a recognized variety for the wyandotte?

ugh, I need my chicken people soooo bad. Im having a rough pre-weekend!

So for the past month or so I have been waking up in the middle of the night with huge burning and itchy hives all over my hands and feet. Its so painful that there is nothing I can do but pace the house for hours until it finally goes away. The allergic reaction i have been having was so bad that my hair started falling out. as you can imagine its been causing me to lose at least two hours of sleep EVERY NIGHT. Its been so rough this past month that i almost dreaded just going to bed. well we figured out what it was. Yep, we cought bedbugs. UGHHHHHH!! how could this even happen? irregardless we had the pestcontrol over yesterday to give us a quote and a full fumigation is going to cost me an entire months pay. I am so stressed about this but we are going to do it- tomorrow. We have to take down all of our pictures, pull all furniture away from the walls, unscrew all socket and light switch covers, take every piece of removable fabric in the house to the laundromat, and all kinds of other fun stuff to prep, which i literally have to do TONIGHT after a long day at work. fun fun fun. we have to be out for 5 hours tomorrow. Im just glad this will all be over. so so so glad this will all be over soon.

few things ive been up to....
One of my polish got a really gnarly overbite

Soooo i did my first ever beak trim and it went over very well. Also decided to give them both haircuts. They went outside and stared at the apple tree for at least 15 minutes afterward...it was very...ODD.

got a new tattoo of my best pal! I love it <3

OH YEAH! and last but certainly not least- came home today and mark said that when he went out to heck on waterers he thought he had heard some peeping in the coop. I figured he just heard little banana outside since the inside eggs are only on day 18. I was actually going to move birds around tonight so I could get Cochin (the broody on eggs) into the broody pen and get Millie and Banana (the mom and baby i already have) out into their own temp pen. Well i went out there and sure enough there was a tired little cutie hanging out with Cochin in the nest box. ON DAY 18!!!

Now i am using my best chicken expertise to say that Mr. Pants mustve made this one with Dolly Parton, the white silkie to get this little fluff ball. Just look at those little black feetsies!

my niece and brother were over at the time and were both very excited by the prospect of us getting our very own chicks from our own rooster and broody!

today she told me that my tattoos look "so beautiful" on me. so yeah, Ive got a soft spot for her ;)

Pics, anyone???

I'm hiding for at least another hour, until it's cool enough to go outside. By then it'll be dark. Blah. I have no idea what the garden is looking like right now, but this heat makes me feel so sick, so I just go out long enough to make sure all the animals are doing ok, then I hide inside again. Anyway...

3 of the 4 ducks... one of the male blue Swedish (either Balut or Roast) with the girls Curry and L'Orange.

Roast and Balut:

My blue andalusians! What do you think... Poached and Grilled, or Satay and Kebab?

Bite-Size, the little boy who's needing a home.

Group hug!!!

Playing in the fresh grass clippings:

Fried Rice:

General Tso:

Jerk:

Korma:

Kung Pao, who is such a sweet and friendly girl! I expected a leghorn to be a lot more flighty, but she flies onto my shoulder to ask for treats.

Soup:

Noodle, who just started giving me blue eggs:

Strip:

Taco:

Dijon the cream brabanter. The dumbest chicken I've ever seen... she gets lost in the chicken coop, and has been going in and out of that door for 2 months!

One of the drakes:

Finger the minorca:

Oh noooo!!!! As if you didn't have enough stress! I'm glad it'll be over soon, but that has to be a huge chunk of money. The chick is adorable, though! I'm down to 3 eggs today.
