Nevadans?

Don't ask me about genetics unless it is marans or ameraucana related and even then my knowledge is pretty basic. :/
Sunny is out of town, thats why she isnt on... But Delilah had her puppies today! (they are out at genny's)
They were born here but poor Genny practically slept over here tending to Delilah.
how far away are you from Reno? some time in the future, I maybe would make a chick run.
I hadn't heard where Sunny got her penedesenca. I know Mandy, (VCFeathers) in Virginia City was interested in those but I'm not sure if she got some. I seem to remember her and sunny chatting about someone in Nevada with penedesencas but I could be off on the location.
there was not a big selection of chickens for sale at the poultry show last November, if I recall. there seemed to be quite a lot of ducks for sale, though. But it could be different this year. I haven't thought of a good way to quarantine grown birds at my place either so that's why I've only gotten chicks so far.

enjoy your steam bath! i'm sure the jam will be worth it, though.

saw the photos on facebook. so cute! that was fast. how long has sunny been keeping this secret? I have no idea what the puppy gestation period is.
Gestation for dogs is 61-63 days normally. It can of course (like any mammal) be earlier or later. It was not planned and I had quit hoping that Delilah might turn up pregnant so I had quit looking. From above she just looked like she was getting a little fat. I didn't know she was pregnant and that close to whelping til 3 days before we left and we had already prepaid for our rooms and the venue for my kid's B-day party in Fort Bragg by then. I was sure hoping she would wait til we got home but nope! She had them the day after we left. I had already set up a whelping area for her inside the house where she could have the puppies without Sampson's hyper attention. All went well and the puppies are adorable and very healthy! :)
We got 16 eggs today. I think about 4 ameraucana pullets are laying plus the gc marans has been going for awhile. Her eggs are regular size now. I have one broody.
Very adorable polish chicks!
that's a lot of jam! sounds very good. my kids wanted to bake cookies today and since it isn't too hot today, I said we could. Maybe we can convince Sunny to start breeding olive eggers.
big_smile.png
I really need a few of those at some point. Going for color in the egg basket! I love it!
Huh! Funny you should say that! I just got my first vibrant olive toned eggs the other day and I mentioned to Steve that we have the makings for an OE breeding project now. lol
Ok, I always thought OE was Old English. But I don't think you get old english by crossing marans and easter eggers!
I'm afraid there are too many breeds of chickens for abbreviations to not overlap. OE, as in Old English, usually is followed by the type of Old English breed you are talking about. Like OEGB or Old English Game Bird, etc.
I was indeed looking into the Penedesenca breed. I haven't bought any yet. There's a woman named Jerry in Stagecoach that raises them along with wallabies and babydoll sheep. Her website is http://beeskepranch.com/ The Penedesenca aren't listed but she is a member of Julie's poultry club, and I've seen her and her birds at the swaps.
Her name is Eddie Miller and I already pmed Pam about her. And yes folks can pm Julie if they want her info.
What do you guys feed you mixed flock of pullets that don't lay and layers bantums and showers?
Game bird feed and I supplement with oyster shell.

Re: Mayonnaise...

2 eggs
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp celery salt
dash of pepper or cayenne
1/3 cup lemon juice or vinegar
2 cups salad oil or extra light olive oil

In a blender, chop the first 8 ingredients and 1/4 cup of the oil for 5 seconds. Add remaining oil in a fine steady stream, through the top opening while the motor runs, about 60 seconds, or until thick and smooth. If necessary, stop motor and push ingredients into blades.

Makes: about 2 and 2/3 cups.

Sunny I think I'm serious about a female pup. Means I may have to make a couple of trips to see how they're developing, but OH DARN! WOW, I can't believe I'm still thinking ye, this far into this post.

Wow! You all added 2 pages more while I was trying to catch up! I am pooped now! I'll get pics later when I am rested.
Here's the one I was talking about, it's still a little damp, did yours look like this?

The swamp cooler would be a good idea. If we had more rain I would collect. I read a story about a person in OR who was collecting rain water and the county was trying to tell him he could not because the water was not his... REALLY?
I heard about that! How ridiculous is that? That is just too restrictive.
My favorite blogger built her greenhouse CHEAP using cattle panels.

I've been called a nutter prepper, but I keep telling myself that it's from people who are jealous. Those people who look at this work and roll their eyes are the ones who haven't admitted the reality of where their food comes from. Until I'm moving onto my dad's property in Idaho and building an underground shelter, I'm still maintaining some sanity.

Yep! I'll ask my friend about it. She's the same one who makes the mayonnaise. (Which reminds me, I need to ask her about that, as well.)
Cool! And thanks for the recipe!
PUPPIES????? WHAT PUPPIES??? Your puppies Sunny?? I want a female!
hahaha! I'm afraid there are so many folks on my waiting list that it will take several litters of puppies for me to be able to get a puppy to everyone that wants one. I am hoping that we will be keeping most of these but I do have a list I can add you to for the future if you'd like.

I'm glad you have a good list. It makes me get back to my senses. LOL If you need help with evaluating or temperment testing, let me know. I'd be happy to help.

My head is spinning in circles. Yall have been so chatty lately! holy moly!

i was gonna reply to something but i forgot what it was...lol

ETA: I remember now. We have to get rid of Gregory Peck :( He is getting so large and is only interested in mating my two frizzled cochins. Poor lil frizz only weighs about a half lb if that and he has got to be at least 8 or nine by now AT LEAST. He is just too big for them i feel like he is going to hurt them, This morning he ripped Ruby's comb in the heat of passion. I know its just a teenage phase that will pass but im not sure i want to risk anyone getting hurt! :(

Some pics of my overzealous teen...

I really love how huge he is, but I am not sure this is going to work out. He isnt the big colorful roo i had hoped for (though he is BIG!), and he is literally afraid of his own shadow. Dont know I want to hold out and wait for him to hurt one of the girls even worse than he did this morning.

I have been thinking about getting rid of one roo. Three crowers in the morning I think is beginning to push it. One is fine, two is...a lot...but all three of em crowing is nutty. I dont know. I am conflicted! Cant I just get the perfect roo already! I feel like i have been doing this for over a year now! yeesh. And porkchop, Peteys son is the first rooster I have had besides the red polish that the coons ate that lets me hold him and is super sweet. ugh. I do this a lot, dont i?

I need to get a journal so i dont have to blab on here everytime i feel i am having a rooster crisis, haha

Cool! Let me know when you might be headed this way again. :)
Today I upturned one of the potato sacks that I planted back in April. Not too bad for something grown on a blacktop driveway...

Not bad at all!
