Nevadans?

Seth are you coming to the Fernley show next weekend? I'm showing my Sables, Cinnamons and Silver Fox. Hopefully I can get my Brits here before your club's show.

OK, one of the pics showed up. It's still kind of hard to see but the brown part is very patterned across the wing and I cut the top of the head off in the pic but it's white crested....what do you think?

A little over a week. They all started hatching two weeks ago tomorrow but had chicks hatching for 6 days, so somewhere in there. I'm just curious to see what they end up as.

We got a record number of eggs yesterday--18. that's with 2 broodies. Also there was a soft shelled green egg so I guess, technically 19. I got so much done yesterday. besides the coop clean out and adding the roost, i cut the plywood for jose's box jump and cleared out the pile of wood and junk so we can put our squat stand under the roof overhang in back. I raked the run and gave them some fresh straw. back to work today though. I got an ergonomic assessment this morning and got my work space set up properly. hopefully that will help with my arm issues.
My daughters chickens (she had 4 but lost 2 to predetars) all have eaten their eggs....they think. They've even tried where the egg drops down into a basket and she said that sometimes the hens will lay it and turn around quickly to get it before it drops into the basket! They also think they have rats. I wonder if your curtain idea would help with rats?

I don't think I've shared my chicky pictures here....
Wonder if my EE mom wonders why her kids have poofy heads

(I gave her Polish eggs to hatch).

Here's my Polish with the Polish chicks.

I'm thinking this one could be a white crested chocolate

My other EE broody who kept hatching rotten eggs during all the heat, finally hatched one today and looks like it's from my Black Australorp.

I haven't hatched any from my one Australorp. It has the tuxedo on and none of my other breeds have that.

Missy, if you have a smartphone, there's a free app from Mother Earth News about canning I thought you'd like.
so cute! love the poof ball heads!
So I have some bad news. Well actually its not really bad news as much as it is obvious news. Banana Pants is a boy. womp womp womp. Spent a half hour chasing him around before he finally got himself cornered and i scooped him up for a full inspection. Millie has completely abandoned him outside during the day and has stopped attacking me when I show interest in him. He couldnt care less, he is so brave.

Heres some pics of him and his dinosaur feet and his beautiful gold lacing and his already bright pink comb!

I may just keep him until he starts crowing, just to see how he feathers out! I bet he is going to have a very silly head poof
bummer he's a boy. he sure is cute, though.
10 eggs today!!! New record! That means 7 of the 9 older hens laid today, plus all 3 of the newly started pullets. Cacciatore's eggs have gone from medium to large, and are such a beautiful terracotta with a thick shell. I'm able to give eggs to both ladies on my "thanks for the love" list, plus keep tons for the family!!!

glad cacciatore is laying again.

Pam that reminds me of how the self red polish feather out as juveniles. They look sort of blotchy barred with black, red, and buff. But once their mature feathers come in they are solid. Guess we will have to wait and see!

Woohoo, Kung Pao the exchequer leghorn laid her first egg! I went to pick Sahara up from school, worrying that this tiny pullet would get eggbound. She's one of my favorites, and a little bigger than a pigeon! But a tiny pullet gave me a tiny egg, no blood spots or anything.

Don't feel so bad... both of the ones that started laying in the last week are Italian breeds. If any of them were going to lay early, it would be them. My other ameraucana still hasn't dropped an egg. I don't know if she's even squatty, because she's very stand-offish and I can't get a good hover over her.
