You bet I am! I made some a few weeks ago for my niece's birthday. Aubrey you will love it!Hahaha! Well at least you can pick him up a helper before you go!
Mmmmmmmm...peach ice cream...![]()
Ron is drooling right now too. lol
Sooooo cool!!!! Have you checked on them again now that it's dark? What's the scoop? I seriously love watching new mom/baby dynamics. It's really exciting. Good find on the dark layers! I'm Hecka jealous. I've still got the itch...
Huh - I wonder what would happen if you recorded the broody's voice then played it back next to the incubator? Would they hatch and then know the surrogate mom's voice?I too am so interested in the mom/baby dynamics. The biggest surprise is that the chicks from the incubater have no clue what mom is saying, yet eggs hatched from a broody seem to know moms clucks right away. It'll be interesting to see how quickly they pick up the language.
LOL!!! I purposely did not send you a link to their site cause I figured you had enough projects already! Hahaha! There is just no keeping you down is there?Oooh how about peach frozen yogurt? That sounds good, too. Hmmmm maybe I need to culture some milk and cream, then make frozen yogurt on Sunday.
Welcome, Ariel!
Aubrey, I told Joe about the possibility of being lent out this weekend. I told him that, if he worked hard enough, there was the possibility of some kind of compensation from you or me. But if he didn't work hard, then everything he does is a donation. He thinks that's a good arrangement.
The canning class went well. Elizabeth, it was so nice to see you there! Then we came home and I found that, during the 1.5 hours that the house had been unattended, one of the drakes had gotten in the doggy door. After eating his fill of dog food, he had proceeded to explore the house. He left his trail through everything but the bedrooms and the massage office. But when I took him outside, the other ducks heard him and came out of the coop to lead him inside.
Sunny, I checked out the website from your vanilla bean distributor, where I just read how to make my own extracts. Here we go again!!!! I'm thinking I'll make vanilla, lemon, almond... yum! Lol.
I love these posts, as a newbie it makes me wish I was up there with you all. But alas, I am stuck here in Sin City. Hope you all can accept one from below the " line."
Awwww, thank you! I'll tell Steve you said that. He's sound asleep right now like any sane person would be. hee heeYou bet I am! I made some a few weeks ago for my niece's birthday. Aubrey you will love it!
Well, it sounds like you are all better Sunny - back to being your old "sunny" self!![]()
Please tell Steve I said congratulations - I know he will do well. As someone else said - they couldn't have made a better choice!
What a sweet story!!! I love the picture you paint with your words!I went up when I got home and three were at the door and three over near where the chickens have been laying eggs since another broody went broody in the coop. I slipped them all under mom and she seemed to relax to have them under her. I went back up an hour later and they're all still tucked in. They peaked out when they heard me so I quickly turned off the light and claimed success!
I too am so interested in the mom/baby dynamics. The biggest surprise is that the chicks from the incubater have no clue what mom is saying, yet eggs hatched from a broody seem to know moms clucks right away. It'll be interesting to see how quickly they pick up the language.
Having 3 broodies at the same time has been really interesting. Then, how other members of the flock act with the moms and babies too.
This broody is a chicken that has always been a loner and I never had much interaction with her. Turns out she's a sweet thing and a great, calm but attentive mom. I really like her and she trusts me. This is the one who sat through the heat with rotten eggs and the only egg that tried to hatch got moved out from under her when I was cleaning up exploded eggs and it died in the shell, so I gave her some already started eggs and she had to sit another week and a half but she never gave up! I really like her. She has one feather that sticks out the top of her head! I tried to pull it out when she was a chick but it was firmly attached. I can't believe it's still there.
Big Daddy, my EE roo came in to see the new chicks and jumped up on the bale of hay right next to me so I started petting him like I use to do before he lost all his girls and started getting pissy. He's gotten a lot of free passes and I'm really happy he's back to bieng a good boy.
Watching these moms, chicks and other members of the flock interact is so interesting! Now that my back is so much better I've cleaned off my chicken chair and am spending time observing again.
Huh - I wonder what would happen if you recorded the broody's voice then played it back next to the incubator? Would they hatch and then know the surrogate mom's voice?![]()

Ah JEEZ! That sounds fantabulous!!! Tangerine extract! If tangerines aren't in the stores now they soon will be. Tis the season. IDK what any vodka costs. I like to keep the few inhibitions I have left.Sunny, tangerine extract sounds fabulous! Tangerines are in the store now, aren't they? Ok, don't laugh anyone... how much does bottom shelf vodka cost? That's what I need to infuse the extracts, and I've never bought it.
Haha!!! We just need it before this weekend. No pressure except that I may explode if we don't get it by then. hee hee Did you notice how much nicer Aubrey asked for it than I did though? You are such a sweetie to put up with me!Ok ok ok.![]()

Welcome to BYC Bcook0315! Glad to see you on here! I totally understand where you're coming from...this thread has a wonderful community of wonderful people. It is what it is... we try to compensate by using a local thread for trading chickens...though I'm not sure that children have been loaned out yet! I have gotten local hatching eggs from 4 different local BYC members through our Las Vegas thread. Come check us out when you can. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/666977/viva-las-vegas Also check out our LV Community page for local feed stores, member general locations and breeder lists. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/viva-las-vegas-community-page Happily we can be a part of both communities...we're just hotter and drier...generally!I love these posts, as a newbie it makes me wish I was up there with you all.
