Well Aubrey you've said it before - baristas rule!

P & P are awesome! And mama looks pretty happy, too.

Aubrey, they're so cute! And I love awesome customers! How are the sick chickens today?

Ok hmmm something to say...
Yesterday I registered myself for the 2013 Tough Mudder... nonrefundable, with 10 months to train.
Today I made the final jam of the season, except for a batch I'll be making with a friend to show her how. Now it's a chutney, a relish, several salsas, pickled cabbage, and apple pie filling.
Oh, and I don't know how close my brabanter is to laying, but today she was singing in the nest while a couple of other hens popped out breakfast. It was about the most horrible jungle squawk I've heard in a long time. That could be a problem.

Thanks for asking! I think the worst might be over already actually some of my sneezers have stopped sneezing and my swollen faced girls are not so swollen faced today. A couple of my hatchery stock birds actually didn't get sick or show any symptoms so I'm gonna keep an eye on them to see if they start sneezing or anything. Overall I and the chickens are in much better spirits about the whole thing. Also none of the three babies have gotten sick yet which I find shocking considering how terribly ill a couple of the grown up birds have been!

I'm actually surprised you didn't do the tough mudder this year. I am confident you've got that thing in the bag!

Awesome! So glad they're getting better already!

When Russ asked me in February to compete with him, I said yes... then looked at the website and saw the electric shock wires and got wimpy. Plus, after the first chicks in March, I got so involved with chickens, ducks, and gardens that I took almost no time to work out. Like... once in a month! So by the time stuff started calming down a little, my fitness had really backslid. But after running alongside taking pictures, I realized that it wasn't as scary as I thought it was, and if I could do half of it after not working out for months, I could train up for it and totally kick it in the butt!

Wanna be on my team?

Awww, sweet! Pot and Pie are living with the big girls now, but they have yet to go in/out of the pop door in the coop. Sour still mothers them a bit but has pretty much decided she wants to be a free woman soon. She goes into the coop at night, but her babies don't know to follow her. When it starts to get dark, I find them huddled together on top of the nesting boxes. I gather them up and set them on the roost beside Sour, and move a cranky hen or two as she lets her babies cuddle under her wing. Tonight, after the 4th night of this, they saw me coming and moved toward me. Even if they don't know about the door yet, at least they know how to get inside where it's warm. In the morning, everyone is in such a mobbed rush to get out of the door that the babies stay very high on the roosts to keep out of the whole mess, so I fetch them and set them down by their mama.

I'm going to introduce the Andalusians to everyone else soon, but wanted to get some of my crazy work out of the way so I could pay attention to them and intervene if necessary. They haven't been with any of the others at all, but they watch through the wire like they want to be part of the group.

We're having a battle with racoons again. They ate all my EE chicks and my old girl "grandma".:hit Ate the food in the trap but must be so big the door wouldn't close so they just backed out.
