WI~chickening for 30 years!
I have a 4 year old OE cross game bird that has been healthy all his life. The other day I didnt see him and found him in the barn hunching...He couldnt see. Eye area is puffy and he has a lump under his beak. There is no foul odor at all. Once I got his eyes opened up he started eating. I have him quarantined just in case but no discharge at all...here are some blurry pics...hard to hold up a bird AND take his pic!

I hope you can see him OK...thanks for any help! Terri O

I have no idea. Could he have been biten by something? I think I would start him on a course of Tylan 50.

Is there a chance he was hit, smashed, or in a fight with something. My rooster got his head hit by another rooster and although it did not break the skin it swelled up for a couple of days .....Hope you find the cause......

Listen to his lungs under a wing...if no wheeZing then I wouldn't use Tylan but I would stArt him on an antibiotic like Penicillian etc... Looks like some type of bite or abcess . you might want to give him some children's benadryl..about 1/2 cc. If the lump under his throat is fluid filled you might want to drain it.

Thanks for the replies. I guess he could have gotten bitten...I dont think a fight; they all get along pretty well since he is in the "barn group" mostly wild birds that have escaped the coop and fend for themselves.
The lump is hard. There is no discharge from eyes or nostrils. I will listen to his lungs today and will start him on some PennG. The benadryl is also a great idea! I might have some around...
Thanks again for the insight!
