New 7 Month old Turkey escaped the coop, what can I do.

Hi, I have had my Royal Palm Tom for about a week, Today while I was in there worming he got out, He was on top of the house and now he is in a tree near the coop, The female is still in the pen and I caged her up in there and left the coop door open so he can go back in, they are calling to each other but he doesn't seem to ant to leave the tree, What can I do ? He is 7 Months old and always lived outside free range at his old home. Thanks

Have you tried letting them free range? If so and you don't like it throw out some chopped up apples and that should get him down

I plan to free range them I figured I would keep them cooped up in till April then turn them loose. He is staying in yard but up in trees.

I usually use apples bread lettuce clover or anything green or red to get mine out of the pen or back in the pen. And if that does not work maybe check in an hour and if he's still there check in the morning and if he doesn't want to go to the pen I would also let the hen out. I had this problem with my bronze last week

Wow, I hope you get him down. I would probably put her in a cage that was very visible to him. Something like a dog crate. It's likely he would want to be with his friend and come down. I would also provide her with plenty of treats to help ensure he has something else he may want.

I've actually never had that problem as I usually raise mine from egg or poult. All I have to do is hollar and they come flying/running. Once they get used to you and stop being homesick they should be easier to handle. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Your right in thinking it should attract him, but the more visible the better. I personally wouldn't let her out or you may have two turkeys up the tree. They clearly are still confused as to their new home and not quite sure they should trust you yet. I still say visible cage to draw him down to her.

Well I went out there this morning before work and it was about -10 F, He was still in the tree, around noon I stooped home and he was not in the tree anymore, I Looked around and didn't see him, I went near the coo and there he was on the side of it. I was able to herd him back in all is good now. I guess that is a good sign since he has only been here a week, In a couple months I should be able to free range with out a problem.

And as for this lousy cold weather.......Please someone turn the heat back up cause I'm CCCCCcccccooooold here too.
