Nope, the D'Uccles are going to live in the coop where they are now. The porcelain D'Anvers will live in the new coop.

Sure wish it could be ready to house my chicks at the end of March, but I doubt I can get enough $$$ for supplies by then...or keep Tom's back in good enough shape to get that much done in a month. Would be great to grow out all the chicks and then as they're added to the main flock, the D'Anvers will remain in this coop.

for the wood ,do you have any wood working type of bissnuses around you ? Mayby the could give you their wood that their not going to use?

There are a couple sawmills around, but no idea if they'd give us anything. If someone is building a house right now, maybe they would let us scavenge in their dumpster-that's how we built our little Firetower coop.

We're using all treated 2 x 4's in the framing--those were cheaper than the worst grade regular 2x4 and since the birds won't have access to the framing, should be fine to use those. Treated $1.97 Non-treated $2.42 at Home Depot.

BTW, welcome to BYC!

More progress. Put cross bracing between the joists and laid the flooring, then managed to build the back wall and brace it before DH's back was tightening up too much. It was very windy here today, though, thank goodness, not very cold.

that will be awesome Cyn...tell Tom he is doing a beautiful job! Matt's back has been bothering him so much through the winter that I haven't been able to get him to do anything yet. It hurts him to go out and feed with me!

hopefully the warm weather will help and we can do some building.

I'm fine with making just a little progress at a time. We covered the floor with 6 mil plastic till we could get back to the project. Still need a window for one end. Found a perfect one at the Habitat ReStore, but an employee of the store had already bought it.

The front will actually have a single sliding glass door turned sideways as a huge front window on the northeast side, so it will only get the early morning sun and none of the bad windy weather that blows in from the west.

Those back issues are just awful and Tom's is getting worse as he gets older. He may have to have another surgery one day.
