I was just trying to get a feel for what they are going for in other areas but I think there is really no set prices. I was recently at an exotic animal auction where there was over 200 peacocks sold (maybe over 300) and there was alot of java'a and spauldings there. One of the java's that I really wanted was imported from germany and it brought $400 which I think was good for that bird. Then there was a blue pied that came through and he brought $510. Now most people would have thought the java would bring more than a blue pied but he didnt, so really what Im getting at is everyone has there opinion I guess on what a bird is worth and what they are willing to pay.

Yep, sometimes the price all depends on how much someone wants it......

Yes if I were to get javas I wouldn't free-range them. I would only free-range some if I got peachicks from the greens then I *might* would try free-ranging some of the peachicks, as for free-ranging brand new green peafowl, NO WAY. I have read of several people being able to free-range javas and they sticked around though so it has been done.

It hard to believe a import from Germany was at a auction there only been 4 breeders that has imported them from Wolfgang and I know none of them would sell one for 400.00 it could have been a offspring but that still cheep. The German imports if you could find one for sale you going to pay 1500.00 ea.

I love the idea of free-ranging too much to not do it with some of my peafowl. Sure they could run away or something, but I still have plans on free-ranging. It is just way more fun to free-range them because you can watch them roam around eating leaves off some trees, scratching through leaves, running in and out of the barn like crazy birds, chilling out in the bushes, flying down from a tall tree in the mooring, ect. Even though my first free-ranging experience didn't go well that was partially my fault. I didn't keep them penned long enough, they were adult birds used to free-ranging at the zoo not used to living in our backyard, a dog really scared them, ect. I will just be more careful and try to ease the next peafowl into free-ranging instead of just opening the door and letting them all out. I will do it one at a time and for short periods of time and go from there...I love visiting local breeders they have so many free-range peafowl and they are always walking around and displaying in their own favorite locations. I will be more afraid too now, but I will just be more careful the next time we try free-ranging.

It may be hard for you to believe but stranger things have happened. I went to the sale with a friend who is a big peafowl breeder and he goes to this sale every year and there are people from all over the country that come to this sale. Were also going to another one next week that is also an exotic sale. Im hoping to get some java hens for my boys there.

Also anyone that regulars auctions knows you never can tell what something will bring or wont bring.
