My name is Nick and I have wanted a small backyard flock for a while now. I finally convinced the wife to allow this little venture to go forth. I am looking to build a cheap coop and get some 2-3 hens. I work at a warehouse and have access to some pallets. I have seen some simple designs and think that I can make it work.
We are planning to get the chickens in the Fall. It seems like chicks are big in the Spring, but can you get them in the Fall, or will we have to get older hens?
Any help/advice would be appreciated.

and Welcome To BYC! You can find chicks in the fall, it is just easier in the spring, you might want to check out your state thread and see if you can find someone who has a hatch planned when you will want chicks, or will even do a custom hatch for you.
