Has anyone made a chicken coop inside of a barn? I made mine next to the goats pen, but biggest problem is to hard to clean? any suggestions?

Do you let your chickens free range much or are they locked up in a coop in the barn ?????

They free range and have their own back door but the main cleaning door is hard to get in and out because of the goats was thinking a cement floor would be good is this to cold for chickens?

Wen I was young about 9 and 10 years old I got a summer job with the local YMCA in Sonoma County California working 3 days a week cleaning out stalls for the college and they had all the animals on cement floors for easer cleaning with a water hose and with the chickens it was cooler in the summer and in the fall to spring I was to put straw on the floor as it would go in the compost easer and would keep the feet from getting cold so really everything can be adjusted it is just what are you willing to do to make it work ........

Welcome to BYC! A concrete floor wouldn't be too cold for the chickens (it would be warmer than outside snow in the winter and chickens go out into it). Furthermore, at night when the chickens sleep, they roost off of the floor anyway. Whatever you decide to do, good luck with your flock.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Cement is hard on the legs and feet of poultry. But if you covered it with enough bedding of some sort, it might work. I am a fan of sand...easy to clean, absorbs poop, no smells, no flies, you can hose it down in the summer heat and the birds stay cool. Just a nice medium to use. Hello and Welcome To BYC! Cement is a good base, my main coop is in an old bank barn with a concrete floor, I have shavings down on top of the concrete.

Why not put a layer of dirt down and start a deep litter coop. Just keep adding stall bedding 1" ever so often and clean out once a year. Composts down and will keep your smell down. Especially if you ferment your feed.
