Hi! I've been stalking for a while, enjoying everything I am learning, but now I feel the need to post. Yesterday we awoke to no power. It hadn't been out long, b/c the heater was still warm, but it was out. By the time I got the kids up and ready for school and called the power company I went out to check my eggs and the incubator was already at 67F. It was cold outside, like 39. I left them while I took the kids to school, praying the power would return. It didn't, I took the eggs out, wrapped them in a fleece blanket and brought them in and sat them in front of the gas heater. After a few hrs i decided to go to my parents house and I took my eggs with me, I put them on top of their heater vent with heating pads around them. I even blow dried them to warm the up. The power was back on around 11:30, so I came home and put them back in the incubator. I left them alone, only opening to turn, quickly 3 times until tonight. I HAD to candle, I couldn't wait. They look completely different to me, but I don't know if it is progression or death, b/c this is my first time. This is day 13. The ends are clear, I researched and found that the air cell is pretty large at this stage, so that explains that. i didn't see movement. I saw a little 3 days ago when I candled, mostly in the blood vessels, so embryo wiggles, not sure exactly what all the movements were. Tonight there is no movement and it looks like some of the blood vessels are fading, I wish I could get a good picture. Some of them have really dark spots like pools of blood towards the bottoms. Basically I just want to know is there hope and what should I look for in the next few days.

..... I'm sure you will find this to be a great site !!!

Well at day 13 you SHOULD be seeing a "blob" If the egg is clear its a dud egg and can be tossed (if you cant tell, leave them in the bator for a few more days) As the chick gets older and bigger you will see less movement b/c the chick is now taking up a lot of the space inside. So don't stress if you dont see much more than a blob !!! The way you explained the eggs they seem fine to me. Chances are your hatch will be a day or so late due to the power going out !!! What is your temp and hum at now ??

The eggs would not be clear if they were developing before the power went out. The only way to know if they are still alive is to candle the eggs after a few days and see if there is movement. Also check the blood veins. If they have died the veins will eventually fade. Plus there may be a blood ring formed.

I was saying that if ANY of the eggs were/are clear (before or after the power issue) they are dud eggs !! I was just talking in genral about candling eggs !!!

Didn't mean to make you mad, but the OP was asking about specifics, not generals.

And you are still using excessive exclamation marks (!!!) which looks like shouting.

One question I have is if your incubator is outside?? That is not a good place for it.
Also, I don't quite understand what you mean by the really dark spots? I don't believe they would have 'pools' of blood in them, just blood rings that would go around the inside of the egg. But wait a few days at least. By day 18 the eggs should be completely dark. You can tell if they're growing that way. They don't move as much as they get older, so maybe that's why you didn't see any movement. I hope they turn out ok. Just remember, it takes longer for the inside of the egg to cool off, so maybe they will be ok.

Ok, lets see if I can address everything. I know about clear eggs and only had to throw out two eggs b/c of this.
My temp is now around 99.5-100.5. Humidity is staying around 57% and I can't seem to get it to stay at 60% no matter what I do.
The incubator is in the barn. I wanted it in the house, but my husband was told it would make the house stink. It is out of the weather, just a little chilly at night. I have some blankets over it right now, to help with that. It is not out in the wind or anything. I don't know what I mean by the dark pools, maybe it's part of the "blob" but it looks weird, only on two eggs.

I guess I'm gonna keep on trucking and just give them a few extra days.

My incubator dont stink when I do this or when they hatch? 50-60% is perfect for day 18+. The house would be better cause it wll have a better chance of stable temps.

The incubator doesn't smell at all unless you have an egg die in there and it sits in there for weeks. But even still, it doesn't make the whole house smell. I would move it to the house and you will have a MUCH better chance IMO. Tell hubby to chill
