Just got my first ever batch of chicks yesterday. Basically spent the whole day watching them, they’re so cute! We have a buff orpington, a black australorp, 3 golden laced wyandottes, and 3 americaunas. Unfortunately only the orpington and australorp survived the shipment from their hatchery. The others passed during shipping. It was a traumatic morning but we went and got the wyandottes and americaunas from tractor supply so we’d have a complete flock of the same age chicks.

Ugh baby chicks are the best. They grow so fast too! I'm sorry about your traumatic experience though :( Try not to be scared off by it, most of the time chicks arrive healthy. You can always try to choose a hatchery closest to your home, and order in the cooler months of late March or April to ensure they are not too hot or too cold in transit. Of course, the mail system has been strained lately too, which was unexpected for everyone. Good luck on your chicken journey!

Thank you so much, and thanks for the tips. Will keep in mind for next time.
