new baby cockatiel!

Do you have an avian vet locally? I would recommend asking them your questions, I don't know what I would do without my vet!

Good luck with your baby!

Best of luck,
El

PS: Just you wait until your chick becomes a fledgling, that stage is adorable! They tend to be clutzy, silly birds. My girl used to fall off her cage perches all the time when she was younger, poor girl!

You should jump on the talkcockatiel forum too.

Welcome to the crazy world of parrots. We have 3 birdies - 1 x tiel (Skiddles), 1 x quaker (Louey) and 1 x Hahns Macaw (Oscar).

Your bubba is adorable!!!!

right now he looks slightly off just because he is growing in feathers haha. I used to have Love birds so I am not 100% new to this but when I bred them the adults showed them the ropes when it came to new foods and trying things(Like learning how to break out of their cages XD ) so trying to teach them from scratch makes me worry a bit.

Yeah hand rearing a baby bird is very different from having the parents rear it. Good luck! I am sure you will do fine!

the baby is in the fledgling stage now haha. s/he has learned step up already (I just put my hand flat on the bottom of the cage and say 'step up' and regardless where s/he is it will come running over onto my hand.) and is trying out perching and adult calls/sounds (until it sees me of course then it goes right back to food calling XD )

Oh my goodness little baby!!!

I found this interesting video online about why we see things as cute :)

Just out of the blue, because I am absolutely melting right now!! She's beautiful, she's a pearl right?

Beautiful! My first Tiel was a pearl, she sadly dies of a bacterial infection, poor girl :(

I was new to birds (she was my first) and I ignored/didn't notice the signs of illness until she was lying cold in the cage corner. I have learned a lot though and I saved my second bird from a similar illness by taking her to a vet immediately after purchase (the normal colored girl I have today).

I recommend annual vet visits! :) (my first girl was from a pet store (not chain, I would never) and my second was from a reputable breeder who was horrified to hear that my bird was sick! Tiels get sick and are darn good at hiding it too!!

I am not trying to cue the violins in this up-tune thread, but I just want to recommend vet visits! They are lifesavers quite literally!!

Best of luck,
El
