Years ago i switched to silkies....watch out they are addictive!!!! You cant have just one! Please be aware of crookneck aka limberneck. This occurs because their skulls grow like a human childs does. The top of the skull is open and over time the bones will grow together as the chick ages. If a chick gets a good peck from a flock mate before the skull fully closes then you will get a chick that will bend its head under its belly while wiggling its head back and forth and falling over. The symptoms first show as a crook in the neck. It usually rapidly progresses .It usually hits young birds but can happen at any age. Can happen when chicks are crowded together.
I know I will get alot of flack... but I lost too many chicks to this condition while trying to stop the brain swelling using ve, and selennium.!!! You will need to get the chick to the vet and have the vet give the chick Prednisone! My vet gives me 4- 5mg prednisone tabs which I keep on hand. I cut these into 1/16th portions. You will have to hand feed them water with an eye dropper a few drops every so often to keep them hydrated. You will see a dramatic change overnite!. I have to look up how I dole the med out later, cant walk to get info in office.. due to foot surgury.
