New bantom babes. Unsure as to breeds, any ideas?

My Herman is a hatchery silkie - blue splash, heavy on the splash. In fact, if it wasn't for the speckles, I'd call him a blue. He is also beardless and crestless with an absolutely massive walnut comb. He's also much too large for a silkie ... but we love him, anyway!
I may have to grab a couple TSC silkie chicks next year. I want one of those crestless ones. What hatchery did the one in this thread come from?

Herman, my nearly crestless, barely goatee'd fellow, came from Meyer Hatchery about two years ago. I can't get photos to upload tonight (dad-blasted Internet!), but here's the link to "his" article. There's a photo attached there. It's from last summer. He looks pretty much the same, today ... except that he's a total dirtball from the recent rains. It's Spring bathtime again!

Aw. Herman is positively adorable. I'm in love with these "defective" silkies. XD I love that he sleeps in the house with you. Is he housebroken, or does he wear a diaper?

I called my TSC and asked if all the stores get their chicks from the same hatchery. Lady told me yes, and that they come from Jenk's. I'd be curious if that checks out with your store.

Herman now spends most of his time outside with his new batch of babies - a young Nankin cockerel and a pair of Kindergarten dropouts that were supposed to be on the smallish side ... but one looks to be a Jersey Giant. He really only comes in now when the weather is particularly nasty, the run is particularly muddy or DD is feeling particularly needy. When he does come inside, either he wears a diaper or his snuggler wears a lap towel. Herman definitely prefers the towel. When he dons the diaper, he does it very, VERY grudgingly!

I can check with our TSC next time I'm in there, but I'm sure they use one of the major hatcheries on the east coast. We're in Maryland, so shipping from Jenks (in Oregon?) wouldn't be cost effective. They'd go local, if only to save on shipping costs and loss.

That makes sense. The silkie bantams sold by Jenk's do look suspiciously like the posted one though. No crest or beard at all. And that's the stock photo. They market them as an alternative to traditional broilers, so I wonder if they purposefully bred them to be different...
