new batch..join me!

Wow chicken obsessed...you have a lot going on! I'm impressed that everyone seems to know the the type of chickens they have. My boyfriend brought all his chickens here because we are living at my house and he only goes to his ranch during the day..so no one to lock them up at night or let them out in the AM...so that is how I got chickens...but don't know what kind they are..well a few we do! Whats weird is the 15 5 day old babies don't look like any of our hens! I love your what you referred to your son as! I called my sons noisy dirt when they were little, though not sure much has changed there! Glad you are on board!

Well hollymh, you sure have a variety in your bator! A local lady supplied me with eggs from her Reds, Cuckoo Marans and Seabrights. For my first batch I didn't care which breeds as it will be a learning process. My Silkie pullets are only 13 weeks old so I have a while before they will gift me with eggs. I'm sure I will have questions as we go along. Good luck everyone.

Yiannisk, great job on that incubator!

Most mothers receive flowers and plants on Mother's Day...I received an incubator!!

My family knows what I like!

This will be my first time using an incubator. (I used a broody hen with 6 hatching eggs and had a 100% hatch rate!)

If I'm not too late to join, I have set it up, regulated the temperature for a couple days, added water and will be adding the eggs tonight!

I have the Little Giant incubator and the egg turner. Any advice or suggestions before I begin? I'll be a day or so behind you all, but would love the support!

Thanks!!

Welcome featherbabes

I'm so glad that all you are on board! With my first 2 hatches I was on my own...I guess that's why I made so many mistakes! It's much beter having the support of others! All of us going through the same thing! My boyfriend was really into the first batch, that was fun...but after what happened he has backed away. He is very supportive, but it's now my project. Plus he is leaving tomorrow for 10 days. I also have my 15 babies to distract me from the WAIT! I have a hovabator..but I'm very impressed by those of you who have made their own! Yiannisk...sounds like you have the most experience....can we pick your brain when needed???!

I know thats what my husband tells me that its my project but thats okay I love my chicks. I have one still air incubatort that I bought from Tractor supply. I am now making one out of an old smoker I don't use . Had to make a bigger one got chicken hatching fever. bought some chukar and gueinnes to hatch also but lots of chickens have to quit for awile after this next batch of eggs get here and hatch them hubbies going to think i've gone crazy when he sees my backyard full of chickens may have to sell some of the babies but at least I will get first pick and make a little money on the side. Then when mine start having eggs and there own babbies oh boy I'm going to need a farm soon. lol

Are duck eggs allowed or is this just for chicken eggs?

It would be great to be with others incubating right now.

This is my first time incubating. I set 13 duck eggs on Tuesday in my homemade bator. I think I've done a pretty good job on my incubator, the temp and humidity stay pretty stable. I'm home most of the time and I am constantly checking on it. I check on it about as much as you would a sleeping newborn baby. I think I've become obsessed with it!
