new batch..join me!

I just tried candling again...I don't see what everyone else sees! The eggs now seem so dark...guessing that its because the chick is taking up the space! My giant egg was clear...but that was the only one. I did not check all...A few more days until lock down! It went to fast! Good luck everyone!

I know how you feel! I wish I could see them better, but it just looks like a huge moving mass inside.

It will be so much fun to watch the hatch with my 8 year-old daughter. Her last day of school is tomorrow, so she'll be home with me when they hatch. The house will (hopefully) be filled with chirps when my hubby gets home that night.

Shardean--what day did you set them? I set mine on a Tues morn and for me tomorrow is day 18 for me so I plan to do lock down tomorrow. Is hatch day, day 21 or day 22? 21 days of incubation with hatch on the next day?

I stared mine also on Tuesday the 15th...that's why I was asking...they should start hatching on Monday, so I guess Lock Down is tomorrow for me too! WOW! so excited for the new babies! Just relocated the last batch that is 3 weeks old out of the house!

How fun...sounds like yours will be the first to hatch from out group! Mine should start hatching on Monday! So lock down Sat. morn???Or should I lock down tomorrow?
I stop turning and lockdown ON day 18, My temp was low for a day so the babies might be a day late, we'll see. They are tinsy-tiny eggs so I wouldnt be surprised if they hatch Sat or Sun even with having a low temp for a day. We'll see!!!

Ok so is hatching day Monday or Tuesday? I was expecting it to be Tuesday but maybe that was the casr with my last hatch where the temp was down a little.

Better late than never, but I'm joining in on this! I set my eggs on the 15th as well, at 10:22am Pacific time. It is my first hatch, and I have 42 eggs! The majority of them will go back to my friend's farm where she has a few broody hens that should hatch the same day. I've candled a few days here and there, and all looks good from what I can tell. It's hard to see because the eggs are pretty dark (Red Star hens) but I'm hoping for a somewhat successful hatch!

I can't believe we only have 4 days left! I'm getting so anxious and looking at hatching videos on YouTube. Haha! Last day to candle, and then it's lockdown time!
FoxyMom ... I came in late on this hatch out conversation, as well. Welcome to the back of the line. LOL It is hard to believe how fast this went. Maybe because I now have a real incubator, verses a homemade aquarium, which never really worked for me. And I have 43 eggs. There was 73 or 74. From travel, unferilization to a tropical storm. It all played a roll.

Oops! I messed up on my dates! I did not place them in on the 15th. Mine were placed in incubation on May 17th at 9am. I believe it is safe to say since they were in from early AM, that counts as day 1? If so .... today is day 16. Lock down will be Sunday. Hatch out by Wednesday. My gosh has this went fast.

Candling is off until Saturday night. The last time I looked, nothing but a huge 'mass'. Air pockets look superb! There is one I'm a little worried about, as the air pockets are HUGE on both sides. If the egg itself is about 3 inches long, there is 1 inch of air pocket on both sides with about an inch for the baby to move about in the middle. Really worried about that one. Hopefully it will be the best rooster I ever did have in my whole life. Also hoping for at least 8-10 roosters, the rest hens.

I was born and raised in central FL. We have lived in Fountain Inn too! We have been here for about 8 years! There are a great bunch of chicken owners around here!!

Lock down is today for me but I am nervous about the transition. I have the turner so when I take it out the eggs will be at a different height thus different temperature. Also this morning i see my temp has spiked up to 102 for some reason. I am not terribly worried BUT I don't like any temp fluctuation. Anyway I will candle one more time--because I love to candle! lol!

I will be taking mine off the turner later this morning and going into lockdown. I had some bad dreams last night of all the things that could go wrong! I hope none of it comes true!

Hi all, I've been away for a couple days and just caught up with every ones news. Hi and welcome to the newcomers. Sounds like a lot of excitement with everyone getting ready for lock down and hatching. I will candle one last time on Saturday and then lock down on Sunday. I hope this is right as I started my eggs at 5pm on the 16th, so I guess that day doesn't count. I'm really starting to get nervous now with this being my first hatch. Hope all goes well for everyone. Can't wait to see those new fuzzy butts!!!
