thats cheap--Dh asked why I ordered meaties...I said I wanted to "try" them once...With the fact that Im having a FALL chickenstock at my house oct3rd I timed it so that processing day (8 weeks) was at chickenstock-we have a processing station to teach people how to do it and we are having everyone bring their roos they dont need/want to be processed...I figured since I had alot of helping hands why not?? LOL Plus now all of a sudden people want them for themselves? my eggs customers want the meaties now on processing day. I said sure 3.50$ a lb :) Not PC though-he's special

I know, I casually mention to people now and again that I raise my own, and then they ask if I sell them...

yah I heard something funny yestreday. My weekend warrior egg customer came and grabbed fertilizer from us and 3 dozen eggs-he said" you are still saving me and chicken arent you? I said yes 1-3 if interested. He said heck yeah seeing as his friend is eeling his meat chickens for 20-25$ a pop! I said mine will run you about 12-4$ a piece-

The only ones I have that would be that expensive ($20-25) is the 9lber I got!! WOW!! I figured out if I sell them for $3.25lb I can actually make a little bit

You know, all of us AK BYCers ought to check into some bulk orders. We ought to be able to get the bulk rate without actually having to buy and store a ton or more at a time if we all get the same thing.

I've also considered trying just oats and sprouted peas with a small amount of the budget feed dog food (salmon, kelp, barley) to up the protein and minerals. It's just under $50 for a 50# bag, but I imagine it would last a loooong time if they were mostly eating $.15-a-pound oats and peas!

That would be a great idea. We could get it and all meet somewhere to distribute into various vehicles... I'm up for that next year.

Where do you get the oats and peas in bulk? And I've used that dog food before on some of my pups.

There's a guy down by the airport in Palmer that sells bulk grains, oats, barley peas and I think hay, too. It's a "bring your own container" type deal, so if you don't have 50- or 80-pound bags to re-use, know how many #'s it will hold.

It's just a farm house surrounded by outbuildings and farm implements and acreage in the middle of town, not really a business with a store front. I've seen signs up in Palmer that say "Fresh Peas" or something of that nature that point the way with the address. It's on Denali St.

I'll try to get the phone number the next time I go. All of my animals are in the process of being switched over to that kind of diet, but I haven't tried meat birds on it.
