New Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Flock

I understand mossy backed to have too much color in the interior of the feathers on the back. Ideally would be a clean interior with a thick edge of color. I have read on some overseas forums where they talk more openly about double mating that mossy backed hens are preferred in cockerel breeding pens for silver laced wyandottes.

I thought "mossy" was smudgy, less defined coloring, it's usually on the breast feathers.

And you were right.

Thanks for clarifying the terminology.

I know it has been a while but here is a small update with one of my 2 favorite hens. We ended up keeping 2 roos and 7 hens out of 28 total we started with. Our favorite roo we were raising passed away several weeks ago during the extreme heat we had here. Highs several days reached 108 with high humidity and was horrible.
