New Brahma Group: Blue Partridge x Partridge, Plus Dark

My experience with cages has been better when the hens were somewhere completely exposed on all sides - like a cage in the middle of the coop floor. It seems to disorganize their line of thought to be unable to squat in a protected corner. Lately I have been putting the cage out in the run under on the covered side, but my run is very secure.

So, I have 2 blue gold partridge brahma's, and I wanted to share. I hatched them on March 17, 2018, yes, they are St. Patrick's Day babies. My Roo is Rascal, and my hen is Princess Leia. I had to help my Leia out of her shell, but as you can see, they are doing very well. I kind of want to know if they have good coloring. Rascal has been trying to get most of my girls... lol but they end up chasing him, it is quite funny.

Hi, Relynn. Your hen is a partridge, not blue partridge. The male also appears to be partridge, not a blue, unless he's just super dark. There is no such thing as "blue gold partridge". Gold is the same as partridge, words used interchangeably. In Europe, they say gold and here we say partridge. Blue means they carry the blue gene and where a partridge is black, a blue partridge is blue. So you seem to have a straight Partridge pair.
Your boy is still getting his hackle color. Very nice pair.

ETA: The boy is a very dark blue, I see, after enlarging the photo some. Blue comes in all shades. Most of mine are somewhat lighter than that. Your hen is not blue, though.

I see no blue in your hen at all. These are both blue partridge hens. They are blue where your hen is black. Yours is like my Brandy and Cora, straight partridge.

I enlarged the photo of your male and he does seem to be a dark blue, but your hen is definitely not.

Yes, Rascal is dark blue, they were blue x gold eggs, so it is entirely possible that she is straight gold, but her feathers do have a tint.

You normally look at the hackles to be sure. Hers are black. Sometimes the foot feathers can seem a tad faded out and almost appear blue, but if the hackles are black, she is a partridge.

She was born a darker color, and Rascal was really light
