New BYC Breed Database - Submissions Needed - Free GFMs!

Polish page is completed.. you can see it on the breeds database.

There is a selection for bantam and for standard when you are creating a page. ...So there will be two main pages ..1 for rhode island standard and 1 for bantam rhode islands.

I think the similarities between the white and reds are close enough we can keep them combined. Maybe just add a snipet in the breed comments about their differences. And just add one pic of a white...like for a hen or rooster while keeping the main photo a red ..being it is the most popular.

Actually, and this is just my opinion, since RIR is such a popular breed I think all the pics on the main page should be red. Then a sub page could be all white. That way peeps can compare the same color hen and roo on the same page.

Rhode island reds and Rhode island whites are different breeds, they should be split up in my opinion

Oh DT, where did you come from!!

I'll do a little more research on it.. I guess since they are accepted as two different breeds by the APA, then that makes sense. On it!

I'm actually NOT going to try to submit this info until you tell me if they will be split up or not because I have a good amount here and it would be easy to split.
I have dates of acceptance into the APA, dates of creation, little tidbits of info, for each breed, so it would only take a few minutes to split it all up.

Ok, for the Rhode Island contraversy...

Poultry Pages has red and whites on the same page but admits they are two different breeds

Feathersite has them listed as two seperate breeds and gives them each a page.

Wiki says, " Despite their very similar names and shared place of origin, the Rhode Island White is a distinct breed from the Rhode Island Red. However, Rhode Island Reds and Whites can be bred together to create Red Sex Link hybrid chickens, such as the ISA Brown."

So Nifty, with that, I think we should have two seperate pages for each Rhode Island breed

Pine Burrows, please submit. The other RIR page is lacking some pics... maybe we can combine??
