New Chain link totally enclosed run!

Lookin’ good!

If possums and skunks are a possible issue, I suggest lining also with a layer of chicken wire, at least along the bottom. I don’t have chain link, but pretty small openings, and skunks, possum, and a rat could fit through. Have not had a problem since tacking up 3 ft chicken wire.

I do have the bottom lined with chicken wire, but that is too keep future chicks IN. I have been here for years, and my main predators are coons. Occasionally will have an eagle or coyote pick one off during the day... but complete massacres are from coons, having wiped out my flock more than once.

The problem I have had, is their 'hands' literally can pull apart a lot of different types of fencing that we have tried. So aggravating, as yesterday I was in a coop/run that my coons would tear apart from multiple entries.

I think you just have to have a set up based on your predators... and a husband that wants you to be happy.

Oh yeah, no doubt about raccoons’ dexterity! I just had a problem with skunks last fall/winter eating the one egg I was getting, so thought to mention it. They never bothered the chickens, but wouldn’t put it past them if a nugget just happened to be sitting in front of them …

The only thing chicken wire is good for is creating a chicken death trap. It is worthless at keeping anything out.

🤷‍♀️ Workin’ for me so far. Watched the same skunks try to get in after putting it up. To reiterate, it is over top of a sort of cattle panel type fencing with smaller openings, so not chicken wire alone.
