Hey all! My family and I from Upstate NY on Seneca Lake are BRAND NEW to chickens....in doing our research, I used BYC hugely for tips and tricks. We ended up buying a pre made pre owned amish built 4x6 Quaker style with a 6 nest box protrusion. It's so pretty, but im guessing wont stay so for long.....we havent gotten hens yet, we decided to go with a half dozen laying hens. If this first year goes well, we will expand the commune and add more next year maybe we'll brood some chicks. I've got the coop, the run, the feed, the grit and oyster shell, the waterers( a 5 gallon home made for the run, and a 1 gallon PVC tube style for the inside of the coop. Im hoping I got everything, I know my daughters(6 and 3) will enjoy raising them and collecting eggs, and I'll enjoy fertilizing my garden with the collected poopy. I look forward to getting my chickens and raising them!God bless guys and gals!
