Hello everyone! I’m super glad to have found this site. I am new to raising chickens. So far I have two Plymouth Rocks and two RIRs. Three of the ladies are now laying, the two rocks and one of the Reds. I have one meany birdie, Hazel, who pecks the heck outta the other Rock, Henrietta. Henrietta is the chatty one. My Reds are called Gretchen and Gertrude. Gretchen is camera shy and Gertrude is prankster. She likes to play keep-a-way whenever the girls get treats like grapes or strawberries. We are enjoying them tremendously. I hope to get at least 2 more gals. Definitely want layers. Maybe a Leghorn, Ameracauna or Silkies. Any suggestions???

:woot:frowHello and welcome to BYC! There’s so many helpful, knowledgeable folks here and I’m sure you’ll find this site a very useful resource. I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do.

Leghorns are great layers but are very flighty. Lots of people recommend Buff Orpington for their friendliness but I’ve never kept BO’s personally. I love Araucana for their beautiful looks and gorgeous blue eggs. They are friendly too, at least mine are, but I hatched them and handle my chicks regularly. Best of luck with your chicken adventures!

G'Day from down under Chickadee Lady :frowWelcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Silkies are not the best of layers but, are one of the best "setters." By which I mean they often tend to go broody and hatch out chicks & raise them.
