If you're allowed to get a rooster, get one (if you want to), make sure that it is gentle to kind animals and vicious to the mean animals (preferably a Jersey Giant). Then not that much animals will even think about messing will them.A lady was out there trying to get it when I heard the commotion. They must live in the neighborhood. Dog and chicken were both under my car. She and her son were able to get him. She kept saying, "he attacked a chicken but the chicken is fine". NO the chicken wasn't!! Grrr!! She will be in own section of the back yard. I'd like to let her free range during the day once she's better, but I'm worried about cats. There are a lot of strays around here and I don't know if they would try to get her. Looking at different coop options now.
A way to find a roo that has these traits is #3 Buying a roo chick and hoping for the best #2 Buy an adult roo from someone that says that he has those traits or (the best thing Edit- That laby has problems, sever lacerations are serious, especially when you can see the goey insides.
