New chicken mom!

Ok, I have a question guys. I have my babies inside, the tiny ones. I'm wondering what is the best thing to put in with them, a good layer of pine shavings or should I put a little hay in with them to help them hold body warmth better too???? Spoiled rotten cuties! They want to sleep on my chest all day! As much as I would LOVE that, u do have other responsibilities lol!

Hay is good, I know what u mean an hour will go by and I've just been starring at them or they sit in my lap

You might want to give them anything to dig around in myself I cut the straw into short sections of about 3" to 6" long and they will go out of the way to move it all over the yard ..........

Ok I have got a heat type lamp with a 60 watt bulb attached to the outside if the crate shining right in the door and they seem to be quite happy! Love my big girls and my little bits! Thanks so much for all the advice! I may try cutting up some hay and put some in with the pine shavings or try to put a little fluffy area of it in one corner of the crate like a nest area. Hopefully I will have pics posted soon.

Alright sounds like you are getting a good set up going on there you pullets should be very happy ...........

They seem very happy!! Although they are happiest when they are snuggled on my neck or in my hair! Lol! Rotten already!

I am a little confused about something. One if my hens is laying rubbery eggs that they break open. I had one Tuesday, and Wednesday. None yesterday, just two pretty brown eggs. This morning had a broken rubbery egg and a good one. Not sure which of the 4 is doing what. I was told by the man we got them from it was calcium. But I know they have plenty of oyster shell mixed in with their feed. I check every time I got out. Also, I keep reading about how they love cooked oatmeal and grits when it's cold, but mine may taste it and that's it. They don't eat it. Very confused!

Trying feeding them layer pellets. Mine started laying everyday after I put her on it. They do need the extra calcium
