Thanks so much Mishelle

I place my waterer up on a block or piece of board with room around it for the chicks to stand, so that it is above the bedding material. Yes, the block gets poopy, but it scrapes off, and the bedding is dry and healthy for the little ones to sleep in.

Oh...and you need to look closely at the waterer, and make sure it is level. Sometimes the bedding puts it off kilter and the water seeps out when the chicks are drinking. That makes a mess of things.

Soaked with what, their water dish? My girls are very messy, but I've never found the brooder wet. I use the feeder and waterer for chickens. They get their food everywhere! I clean the brooder at least 100 times a day scooping out poo. I only have 4 and they grew out of their first brooder in one week and 2 days. I now have them in an extra large dog kennel. They are much quieter now that they are in a bigger place.

Could it possibly be condensation from a rubbermaid container and no ventilation?

The waterer is making the bedding wet, I got up at 1 this morning to refill it there water. The block of wood makes sense and I'm not sure its sitting level. I have x large dog kennel the cage kind but I'm worried about them getting out and not having sides to keep them warm...

Little ones grow very fast. I would recommend the larger kennel. Wrap it in a warm blanket or cardboard. Just make sure your heat lamp does not get too close to the blankie/cardboard. Check it every few minutes for the first hour to make sure it isn't too warm...after that it should be fine.

This was my first brooder for my 100+ younguns.. As you can see, nothing fancy, but they all lived!
