New chicks...one has no eyes...horrific

Ether and the baking soda with vinegar methods both work by putting it to sleep first then suffocating the bird. It's not really putting it to sleep but more like making it pass out due to lack of oxygen.

Personally if I had to go I'd rather my head chopped off fast and cleanly.

Ah, ok.

I would too.

There was an article about wrapping the chicken in a towel soaked in ether and putting in a sealed box. Sounds really peaceful. I wish I could find it.
We used to put raccoons to sleep with ether. We bred and raised coon dogs so we used coons for training and needed them unconscious for various handling. It's an unnecessary expense and has its complications and side effects though, being a dangerous strong toxic chemical. However i guess it could be an option for hands free, eyes free culling. OP, have you considered asking family or friends if theybwere up for the job. Some people could heart and stomach it with no problem and would be more than happy to help out. That saves you and your wife the heartache and saves the chick from suffering. That seems like a great option.

Blue ticks and treeing walkers here. I did have a few redbones and back and tans over the years. Our main breed was blue ticks over the years.

Walkers here. Mostly Scuna River Bark and Tequila Sunrise bloodlines. We had lots of Grand Night Champions

My comment posted before i got done typings, lol, but anyways

Lol, yeah we had a number. You know any Beards? Had 2 uncles that used to travel all over and championship hunt. We breed and trained but mostly just hobby hunted and sold hides.

Good idea...except I AM the husband. Feeling like I need to turn in my man card.
Lmao when it comes to dispatching animals, I wear the pants in my relationship.... being the female of the relationship. Don't get me wrong though, I still cried and had a uncomfortable adrenaline rush the first time I cut a chickens head off. I just know I'd rather deal with some discomfort than give up chickens (which is the only surefire way to shield yourself from things such as this.)

You've got this. You've got this because you have to.
